Consultants inspire spiritual growth in the workplace Help the dominating boss from Hell find humility through the Enneagram personality development tool

The boss from hell is a demanding, dogmatic, control freak. But the real problem is that his irate outbursts cause fear, inhibit staff from taking action and kill productivity. For executive Coach Ben Saltzman, the solution to the problem boss is in getting him to see how his view of the world limits his ability to motivate employees.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Consultants inspire spiritual growth in the workplace

An upcoming seminar: Help the dominating boss from Hell find humility through the Enneagram personality development tool

APTOS, Calif. -- Dec. 15, 2002 -- The boss from hell is a demanding, dogmatic, control freak. But the real problem is that his irate outbursts cause fear, inhibit staff from taking action and kill productivity.

For executive Coach Ben Saltzman, the solution to the problem boss is in getting him to see how his view of the world limits his ability to motivate employees.

In an upcoming three-day workshop, Saltzman and Master Coach Donna Fowler will work with coaches and corporate managers to help them permanently change workers behaviors. Attendees will practice coaching skills and, using the Enneagram, a personality assessment tool, learn to shift perceptions and underlying beliefs. A growing number of corporate leaders are improving management skills through the Enneagram which describes nine wildly different world views that lead to habitual patterns of reaction.

Typically the overbearing boss from hell is a Type Eight on the Enneagram. Deep inside they believe the world is a hostile place in which people dominate others or are dominated. To stay safe they build up layers of armor and display aggressive behavior. When Eights increase self-awareness, they see where their beliefs are out of sync with reality and become more open and vulnerable. They can create authentic connection with staff members. As eights learn to observe the dramatic emotional impact they have on their staff they stop bullying and start collaborating and teaching and motivation soars.

The upcoming seminar is for people of all types -- whether they are familiar with the Enneagram or not. Where are you on the Enneagram? Ones are hard-working perfectionists who criticize others. Twos are givers, who seek emotional connection but cant set boundaries. Threes are task-oriented achievers, but they cut corners to look good. Fours are creative and artistic but also melancholic and overdramatic. Fives are keen observers and analyzers but, emotionally remote. Sixes are questioners, committed to the cause, but prey to negativity. Sevens like fun, but get bored easily and cant complete projects. Eights are driven and protective but often abrasive and hostile. Nines are mediators who deftly smooth out conflict but have trouble following their own agenda.

Never before have I found such a precise system that allows me to see peoples underlying blocks and help them change their behavior this rapidly," says Saltzman whos been training executives and teams for 10 years. In one coaching session we can uncover their inner motivations. Clients start to implement changes immediately."

At the workshop, participants will learn deep-level coaching techniques. They will get hands-on practice with a revolutionary coaching model. They will watch live interviews with panels of representatives of each personality type who describe their inner worlds.

Since the Enneagram was introduced as part of the curriculum at Stanford University School of Business in the mid-80s, consultants have typed employees and executives at Silicon Valley startups and Fortune 500 companies such as Motorola Inc., General Motors and Boeing Company, as well as government agencies including the CIA and the California penal system.
