Local business participation to make the 2nd Annual Great Holiday Food Drive a success has been phenomenal. Businesses are working together to make this food drive a success and raise thousands of pounds of food during the Main 12-hour event on December 19th.

Local business participation to make the 2nd Annual Great Holiday Food Drive a success has been phenomenal. Businesses from multiple industries, even competitors, are working together to make this food drive a success and raise thousands of pounds of food during the Main 12-hour event on December 19th. All donations raised are for the Oregon Food Bank and the thousands of hungry families in Oregon and SW Washington.

The food drive will have one Main Donation Drop Site at the West Linn Thriftway and ten outlying Donation Drop Sites at various businesses around the Portland Metro area. Drop Sites consist of concerned grocery stores and businesses throughout the Portland Metro area all working together to assist the Oregon Food Bank. Terry Reid of Peninsula Truck Lines has committed to donating the company's services for pickup and delivery of the donation barrels located at each Portland Metro area Donation Drop Site, as well as taking all the final donations to the Oregon Food Bank after the food drive.

At the Main Donation Drop Site at the West Linn Thriftway on Thursday, December 19th, Santa will be available for digital pictures with children from Noon to 4pm, and cookies and drinks for everyone under a heated tent to keep warm from the cold all day till 7pm! All those who donate 10 cans of food or more can enter to win one of several great prizes donated by local businesses. Raffle prizes include such things as a night's stay in Cannon Beach with a dinner for two among many other great prizes donated by local companies. Special thanks go out to the following local companies for their generosity in donating for the Raffle: Bull Ring NW Mexican Restaurant, Amazing Maids, Crantfords Flowers, Skin Care by Jane and Fit for Life Exercise Center. In addition, thanks go out to all the companies Metro-wide that agreed to be Official Food Drive Donation Drop Sites: Costco, Food 4 Less, Albertsons, Lambs Palisades Market, Portland Mortgage Company, Beaumont Market, and Whole Foods Market.

Thanks to the enormous generosity of Tony Slyter, Store Director of the West Linn Thriftway, there will be a Special Extension of the food drive held only at the West Linn Thriftway that will last from the end of the normal food drive on the 19th throughout the weekend with a Grand Finale on Sunday the 22nd from 1-5pm. Those donating ten cans or more can continue to enter the Raffle throughout the weekend until 5pm on Sunday. Additional activities on Sunday from 1-5pm will include wine tasting, local pianist John Nilsen, special demos and prizes, and great sales and fun. Oregon ranks number one in the nation for hunger. Last year 720,000 Oregonians (one out of five) requested emergency food boxes. That's a 10 percent increase over the previous year. Worse yet, 40 percent of those who received emergency food last year were children. And the numbers of people requesting emergency food boxes continues to increase. Please assist us in fulfilling some of this additional demand by stopping by a participating Metro-area Donation Drop Site Thursday, December 19th from 7am to 7pm, or come by the Special Extension sponsored by West Linn Thriftway anytime through the Grand Finale, Sunday the 22nd.
