Siemens delivers SURPASS Next Generation Networks solution for Telekomunikacja Polska: Contract volume EUR 20 million
Siemens IC Networks has signed a contract with the largest Polish carrier Telekomunikacja Polska S.A. (TP SA) worth EUR 20 million for the supply of Surpass Next Generation Networks (NGN) technology.
Siemens IC Networks has signed a contract with the largest Polish carrier Telekomunikacja Polska S.A. (TP SA) worth EUR 20 million for the supply of Surpass Next Generation Networks (NGN) technology. The order covers the setup of a signaling network based on Surpass hiS 700 and delivery of the NetManager network management system for existing EWSD exchanges.
The project, covering the setup of an overlay signaling network for Telekomunikacja Polska, will establish six Signaling Transfer Points (STPs), four of which will support domestic traffic and two serving international and independent carrier traffic. The Polish carrier chose the Siemens Surpass technology due to the high performance of the product. By implementing Surpass hiS 700 in its network, Telekomunikacja Polska will be able to expand its service portfolio easily and at low cost, e.g. with number portability and SMS features. The NetManager management system cuts operating costs for network operators through efficient and flexible control of the network.
This project with Telekomunikacja Polska is based on the framework agreement for signaling products signed by Siemens IC Networks and France Télécom last year. It is already the third contract signed under this agreement.
Background information on Signaling System Number 7
Signaling System Number 7 (SS7), also called Common Channel Signaling System No. 7 (CCS#7), is a signaling system employed in digital networks that was chiefly defined for ISDN. The signals in the signaling channel regulate the exchange of control information between ISDN switching centers required to set up and clear down connections and make various services available. Common channel signaling differs from channel-linked signaling systems in that the control information is conveyed separately from the 64-kilobit/s useful channels in special common" 64-kilobit/s signaling channels shared by a large number of useful channels. This signaling takes place between the ISDN switching centers and so is also referred to as inter-exchange signaling. Although Signaling System Number No. 7 has been optimized for a transmission rate of 64 kilobit/s, it can also be employed with other rates. CCS7 exists as an ANSI standard as SS7 and as a CCITT standard as SS#7.
