November 18, 2002 - Cannes Mandelieu, France. Net-atHomeTM2002 Going Beyond Concepts (www.Net-atHome.com), the premier event in Europe covering Home Networks and Gateways, Connected Appliances and Internet Services was held at the prestigious Sofitel Royal Casino Hotel (Cannes Mandelieu, French Riviera) from November 13 to 15. This year again, Net-atHomeTM featured an intensive & comprehensive pre-conference Workshop (over 60 attendees), a highly strategic Conference (over 260 participants - 20 countries represented) and a very attractive Exhibition of cutting-edge products, technologies and services (45 exhibiting companies including a village of projects funded by the European Commission).
The event was attended by European, north American and Asian manufacturers from different sectors (white goods, computer and consumer electronics, energy, telecoms, etc.), service companies (energy utilities, telecom operators, watercos, cablecos, etc.), companies specializing in multimedia content, silicon and component manufacturers, software companies, integrators, state research laboratories, business angels, etc.
The Pre-Conference Workshop's main objective was to assess the current state and future prospects of European and global markets for the Connected Home. "Through this workshop we aimed to present our vision of these markets. The slogan chosen this year was going beyond concepts": despite the unfavourable worldwide macro-economic environment, the current state and the development of these markets seems indeed (finally!) to permit this maxim" says Roger Torrenti, CEO of Sigma Consultants and also expert in this field for nearly 20 years. Throughout the day Roger Torrenti carefully defined the relevant markets and detailed the market environment, the consumer demand and the market offering (products & services). A session was also devoted to a reliable assessment of the market status and trends. The feedback received from guests and attendees was very positive. Roger continues: "I would like to warmly thank my special guests (Simon Garrett from BT, Marcel Graber from Ascom, Alain Lambert from Legrand, Jean-Pierre Lobert from DιfiDev, Olivier Granon from Cust'Home, Harry Crijns from Konnex and Guido Baumhauer from Deutsche Welle) for their contributions during the workshop. Their wisdom and experience were very important in illustrating and reinforcing our analysis".
"The 2-day Conference and Exhibition surpassed all our expectations as far as content and number of attendees/exhibitors are concerned. For the fifth year running, the event showed itself to be the most relevant one in Europe and I personally thank all our sponsors, speakers, attendees, exhibitors and endorsers for their strong support", says Karine Valin, General Manager of Homega Research, a division of Sigma Consultants specializing in technologies and services for the home. Karine continues: "delegates seemed particularly happy about the many opportunities for networking with other players involved in this market, where they could exchange information, put forward their views of the presentations and discuss the latest initiatives demonstrated by the exhibitors". The scope and the content of the Conference showed how the market is evolving towards proven solutions. The development of broadband technologies for access networks, and wireless and PLC technologies for home networks was very clear during the event. There was also much discussion on the Internet services and the connected appliances that are really enjoying maturity and efficiency.
Like last year, again a successful event. Good partners, buyers and sellers in the audience. Lots of opportunities like fish in the sea." said Mark Ossel, Vice-President & General Manager of EMEA Echelon Corporation.
