FRANKLIN PARK, Ill., and LONG ISLAND, N.Y.--Dec. 18, 2002--In recognition of National Motivation & Inspiration Day, Life Fitness and the founder of the day, Kevin L. McCrudden, are organizing a nationwide attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most simultaneous participants on "stationary/static cycles."
At 9:00 a.m. EST, Jan. 2, 2003, exercisers across the nation will hop on stationary bikes at participating fitness facilities and cycle for a minimum of 10 minutes to participate in the first Motivate America - CycleQuest event. Coordinators at the facilities will document the total number of participants. The current record for "Mass Participation Stationary/Static Cycling" is 300 participants, which was established in 2001 in Bogota, Columbia.
The intent of setting the Guinness World Record on National Motivation & Inspiration Day is to increase visibility and recognition of this day and bring motivation and inspiration top of mind" within every day American culture. Mr. McCrudden states, This is such a difficult time for America; our corporate, financial, religious and political leaders are in question of wrongdoing and scandals are seemingly uncovered weekly. Our mission is not to sell" anything, however, to redirect America during this troubling time of war and social uncertainty. A grass-roots movement to increase our social consciousness and commitment to being more than we are today."
Mr. McCrudden continued,"If we can teach children and adults to set goals for themselves and how to stay motivated enough to achieve them, hopefully everyone can reach new levels of fitness, health and personal achievement."
On Dec. 18, 2001, the United States Congress passed Resolution H.R. Res. 308 acknowledging Jan. 2 as National Motivation & Inspiration Day. The intent of the day is to bring motivation and inspiration top of mind with the American public and eventually establish a curriculum for high school and college students that focuses on the importance of goal-setting, personal performance and achievement.
"This as an excellent opportunity to work on a philanthropic endeavor with a unique twist," said Kevin Grodzki, president and chief executive officer, Life Fitness. "Motivation and inspiration are key elements in achieving fitness goals, and we hope this day will inspire people to exercise and develop healthier lifestyles." People interested in helping to set the world record for most simultaneous participants on stationary/static cycles should sign up at a local participating fitness facility or health club.
