The call for cheap but chic t-shirts has been answered with the launch of Cherry Tee, a new line of affordable fashion t-shirts designed to compete with high-priced t-shirt brands that have flooded the market. The collection is available exclusively at www.cherrytee.com.
Cherry Tee's first collection is a streamlined assortment of cap and long sleeve crews and tank tops. The company has offerings for both women and men and plans to add additional styles and colors as well as a line for children in the coming months.
Founded by husband and wife team Craig Zolan and Deborah Brener Zolan, Cherry Tee began as a journey -- the quest to find and market "the perfect tee." "We wanted fashionable t-shirts but not at the expense of comfort: close-fitting but not binding, to the waist but not overly exposing," explains Brener Zolan. "We had to have cotton that gets softer over time but keeps its shape throughout washings and colors that are chic and sophisticated." Most importantly, the two wanted to provide t-shirts that were reasonably priced. She continues, "The Cherry Tee brand is perfect for people who have no qualms about paying a premium for luxury accessories and apparel, but not for everyday cotton t-shirts."
The women's styles are "baby" tees, which are snug and form-fitting. Made from 100% fine baby-rib cotton jersey, the knit offers enough of a stretch to accommodate a variety of body types. The men's version is lightweight with a tailored, refined finish. Prices range from $17.50 to $28.50.
The goal of the company is to simply become the leading on-line source of basic, solid colored t-shirts sold directly to the consumer. "We purposefully chose to sell our products through our website rather than trying to gain distribution through stores," says Zolan. "Our aim is to control the Cherry tee image, product offering, packaging, customer relations and promotion. We feel more comfortable with our ability to provide a superior consumer experience."
Cherrytee.com has a simple, elegant design and projects a visual identity more commonly found on high-end fashion sites. The packaging and customer service is also more in line with the treatment consumers of luxury goods brands enjoy. This was intentional as the company's founders firmly believe that positioning Cherry Tee with an exclusive look and feel coupled with the inclusive price-points helps them stand apart in a crowded marketplace. Brener Zolan says, "We'd like our customers to feel proud that they've discovered our brand and not just completed a transaction."
Brener Zolan, a former advertising executive and founder of her own marketing consultancy specializing in fashion, beauty and luxury goods, will manage the product development, creative direction and marketing. Zolan, an attorney and founder of a technology-licensing publisher and consulting firm, will oversee operations, strategic development and management.
