The Return of Officer Byrd

Officer Byrd Enterprises and Officer Byrd Foundation announce the return of OFFICER BYRD AND HIS PARTNER OFFICER MIKE -Teaching kids about stranger Danger and Safety and other important issues-

RIVERSIDE, CA. -- December 20, 2002 -- Officer Byrd Enterprises and Officer Byrd Foundation is happy to announce the return of Officer Byrd with his partner Officer Mike Simonsen. Officer Byrd was started in 1977 following increased concerns over the potential loss of life and danger to our youth. Officer Byrd introduces quality information via live performances at the local and National schools. The popularity of this exciting method to convey safety and Stranger Danger" information has spread across the USA.

Officer Mike and his appointed 007 LAPD star, has entertained millions of children and their parents, with traditional safety points, using humor and a live Blue and Gold Macaw. The team has become recognized everywhere they appear these include charitable events, school functions, public appearances and he has even done National and local television programs.

This time tested safety information provided by this Dynamic Duo" is needed even today. With our children are MORE at risk than ever before, they need to get this information and what better way to provide it in a way that is fun and entertaining.

The Officer Byrd program is a great way to promote important issues to children. It captures the childrens attention and imagination by using a personable blue-and-gold Macaw named Officer Byrd. Children are taught traffic, home and personal safety. Byrds owner and trainer, Officer Mike Simonsen, developed the idea of using a bird as an attention-getter when he began making police-sponsored safety talks at grade schools. Simonsen had said in a previous interview with KTTV 11 in Los Angeles; before the bird became the focus of the traffic seminars, I noticed the kids werent that interested in what was being said. They were interested in my gun -- theyd want to know how many people I had killed that week."

Officer Byrd, the Macaw introduces quality safety matters using visual and entertaining activities. Among these are riding a bike, roller-skating, driving a police vehicle with lights and siren, playing basketball and throwing away trash. These entertaining behaviors allow boys and girls of all ages to REMEMBER the valuable information, to be used when the time is needed most.

Over the past 25 years Officer Mike and Officer Byrd have received numerous letters and cards of appreciation from parents and children alike. Many community leaders and politicians have also openly forwarded their sincere appreciation of the wonderful work that done with these informative safety projects.

The need to allow our young to become MORE aware of the risks and dangers current life situations may present is overwhelming. The goal of Officer Mike and Officer Byrd is to rekindle the valuable work done over the past 25 years, to the young boys and girls of today. The project STRANGER DANGER" will allow this team to provide shows at schools and community events, and distribute activity books. These books are to be sponsored by businesses and civic leaders, to inform and entertain our children on many safety matters.

The Officer Byrd Safety club is a way that children can stay involved with the on-going lessons of safety and Stranger Danger" with the officer bird safety fun book, news letters, ID card and a special area for members only on the Officer Byrd Web site. The fees paid for the Officer Byrd Safety club goes towards distribution and production of material and a dollar goes back to the charity or school of members choice.

The Officer Byrd Foundation is the non-profit portion of Officer Byrd Enterprises. This program will allow Officer Byrd to help children and families in need. With the ultimate goal of building the Officer Byrd House" for Homeless, battered and abused children.
