Santa Claus Battles CRM, Privacy Issues, and Copyright Infringement in "Santa Claus vs. The Marketers"
VANCOUVER, B.C. -- December 23, 2002 -- It's Christmas Eve, and Santa Claus is grounded.
After Claus Inc. hired a consulting firm in early November to re-brand Santa's image and revamp its business practices, the corporation has been on a downward spiral. The elf workforce has been downsized 70%, Santa's been given shoulder pads to make him look thinner, and even Rudolph's been eliminated for environmental reasons (nose radiation).
This is just part of the free short story "Santa Claus vs. the Marketers," an adult fable about contemporary business issues. Offered as a free download, the story is available from http://www.damnfinewriting.com in Adobe Acrobat PDF
format.
Jonathan Cohen, the author, is a freelance writer and editor, and a refugee from the dot-bomb era. "I thought it would be a great gift to my clients and the business community," he says. "Not to mention that it gives me a chance to poke fun at some of the major issues facing business today -- layoffs, privacy, and whether downloading music, software, or videos is really piracy."
Will children everywhere have to register with Claus Inc. and sign a license agreement to get their presents? Will Rudolph fly again? Will Santa prevail over the marketers? Cohen's not telling, but he does comment that "I'm not planning on investing in any coal stocks this winter."
