THE BALTIMORE ST. PATRICK PARADE ANNOUNCES THE ELECTION OF THE 2003 GRAND MARSHAL AND HONORARY GRAND MARSHAL
BALTIMORE, MD (December 18, 2002) The Baltimore St. Patrick Parade Committee announced today that, Delegate Brian K. McHale, District 47A, Baltimore was elected to be the Grand Marshal of Baltimore's 47th annual St. Patrick Day Parade to be held March 16, 2003. Mr. McHale has been a member of House of Delegates since February 5, 1990
Gerry Farrelly was elected as Honorary Grand Marshal. Mr. Farrelly emigrated from Ireland to Baltimore over 25 years ago. He was raised on a family farm near the town of Oldcastle, Co. Meath (about 70 miles northwest of Dublin.) Mr. Farrelly is a graduate of All Hallows College, Dublin and St. Mary's Seminary & University, Baltimore. Originally he spent a number of years teaching and working as an ordained deacon in Mobile, Alabama, before coming to Baltimore. He currently teaches at Calvert Hall College High School; teaches Irish History & Culture since 1984 at Weekend College of Notre Dame of Maryland; has taught the Irish language at Loyola College and other places over for the last fifteen years; and has been singing and playing Irish ballads in the Baltimore/Washington area since 1978.
Parade Chairman, David W. Keelan, of Ellicott City, Howard County, said, "Brian and Gerry certainly deserve this honor and recognition. Both have supported the many endeavors of the Irish Community for many years."
Mr. Keelan, a resident of Howard County for two years is serving his second year as Parade Chairman.
About the Baltimore St. Patrick Day Parade
The Baltimore St. Patrick Parade will be held on Sunday, March 16, 2003. The Baltimore St. Patrick Parade is the longest running parade in Maryland and 2003 marks its 47th consecutive year. Over 100 organizations will be represented in the parade.
