FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Art you can take with you . . . art that gives back . . . art that makes the world not only a more radiant place, but a place with heart . . . thats what the artist-designers of Jewel of the Moon are offering online from now through January. The six-member group of artists creates unique, handmade jewelry and fine art sold in person and online at their site: www.jewelofthemoon.com. But theres more, much more.

Jewel of the Moons art isnt just wonderful to behold, it also helps improve the world -- or at least for some who live in this small corner of the planet known as Westchester County.

"We want our art to make life not just more beautiful, but also more meaningful for others who are less fortunate," says Bedford-based jewelry designer Retno Hadiatmodjo.

Hadiatmodjos partner, Javier Gomez, explains that Jewel of the Moon is contributing 10 percent of its online proceeds to Westchester Countys Habitat for Humanity during this period.

"We love knowing our art can also function as a helping hand for someone less fortunate," Gomez said.

Habitat for Humanity is an international organization with the goal of eliminating homelessness and substandard poverty housing. The nonprofit organization accomplishes this by helping future homeowners build or renovate their own homes. Habitat for Humanity uses volunteer labor and materials and homes are then financed at no profit -- making them affordable to those who never thought they could ever own a decent home of their own. Home owners also have to do much of the work on their homes, producing "sweat" equity, as well as pride and a sense of accomplishment. Jewel of the Moon's commitment to this project can be verified by contacting Jim Killoran of Westchester County Habitat, (914) 636-8335; and specific information about the Westchester County non-profit can be found at www.habitatwc.org.

Jewel of the Moons artists, stirred by the communitys needs and the past success of the countys Habitat for Humanity, wanted to be part of the reason hard-working families can look forward to a better life in 2003. Gomez says the artists want the luminous jewelry and haunting fine art they craft to impart a lasting impression.

"Purchasing a gift online from Jewel of the Moon online allows someone special to receive a wonderful gift and at the same time give another person a special gift, too," Gomez said, referring to the artists donation to Habitat for Humanity.

Hadiatmodjo says the online selection offers a little bit of everything -- from her own exotic jewelry creations to the oils and multi-media artwork of Kristina Anne Edstrom. Darlene Charnecos artful blend of sensory experiences, Meredith Kamudas multi-culturally inspired Gewels, Tanita Holloways vibrant jewelry designs and Ruby Zoes creations -- inspired by nature -- are available at Jewel of the Moon.

Jewel of the Moon is a consortium of unique artists and designers who believe there is beauty in simplicity and choose to use their talents to give something back. Inspired by the events of Sept. 11, Jewel of the Moons artists remain committed to integrating their handiwork with public service, producing art thats synonymous with good deeds.
