Database Management Web-solution.

Pilot group developed the PilotDBWebService to make it easier for users and programmers to work with databases under MSSQL.

To work with databases, you have to be constantly using requests written in SQL that contain such commands as select, delete, insert, update. These requests are rather a long process to build, moreover it requires certain expertise and experience. This is especially true when you have to enter or modify a lot of data in the database.

Pilot Group developed this service to facilitate data management for common user that does not have expertise in handling databases.

This is how it works.

Having analyzed the configuration of a database, it generates for it a code that contains six methods: Connect, Get, Remove, Insert, Update, and Disconnect. With the help of these methods, you can productively work with MSSQL databases, even if the language of building queries (SQL) is tabula rasa for you.

PilotDBWebService is a web-service located in a distributed environment, with which you can work in the following ways:

• With the help of Windows Application -- «Client for PilotDBWebService» that works under user's operating system.
• With the help of Windows Application -- «Web-client for PilotDBWebService» that works in the same distributed system as PilotDBWebService.
• Directly with the web-service "PilotDBWebService" itself.

When you want to use the service, all you need is just to type its address in your web-browser:

http://unknownhost.unknowndomen/PilotDBWebService/Service.asmx
All the necessary data required by the service for its successful operation are passed to it as parameters. After receiving these parameters, the web-service connects to the specified SQL server, gains access using the specified logon and password, and starts generating code for the tables located in the specified folder. When the code is generated, the service saves it to the specified folder.

Web-services can be used in general by common users to browse and modify database tables. But they can be used by web-developers as well to use the xml-string input/output.

It should be noted that PilotDBWebService presently being a beta-version, will be enhanced and developed in future to have the following features:
• support different database formats (not only MSSQL, but Oracle, Access, etc)
• gain unified access to the database in the whole instead of connecting to each table separately.
• get generated files in archives, to reduce traffic between client and host.
• create not only web-services but other programmed structures.
