All aero-domains with three letters reserved for airports

All 3-letter-codes at the 2nd level domain of dot aero have been disabled from further registration by SITA.

PRESS RELEASE:

SITA declared in December 2002, that it will consider re-allowing general community membership to register these names either following advice from ACI that these names are no longer interesting to airports or following advice from the upcoming Dot Aero Council in February that using these names for airports is not in the interest of the community at large, or if the complexities involved are too great. At the latest a decision, it is said, shall be taken on the 28th February.

This decision has created problems for companies, which have abbreviations or acronyms of three letters, but are not airports. In March 2003 the number of aero domain names with three letters, which are reserved for airports, have been reduced to 1800. The airports have time until September 2003 to register their reserved three letter domain names. After this date every member of the aviation community can register domain names with three letters.

In the future everybody, who wants to know something related to aviation, flying or travelling , will look for .aero-domains.

The Registrar Secura (http://www.domainregistry.aero) is officially authorized by ICANN and SITA TO register aero-domains.

The aero-domain is a restricted and exclusive domain. It is only available for members of the aviation community. The aviation community is a very broad one. Not only pilots, stewardesses and students of aviation belong to it, but e.g. also modell makers, parachutists and para-gliders.But every applicant has to prove that the company (or he personnally) belongs to the aviation community by the Community Membership ID and the Password. If one has not got yet any Membership ID and Password by SITA, it is sufficient, to send to secura@domainregistry.de the "credentials" with the domain applications. One can send e.g. the address of the domain/URL with aviation content or documents by fax (+49 221 9252272).

Airlines can register now their two-character-IATA-Code.
This is highly recommended, as not only for a specialized targeted group, but also for the broad public such two character domains are a good advertising tool,as people easily remind such short domain names.By.aero, NW.aero and un.aero have been already registered.

Aviation professionals and pilots can now register directly at aero.
These creates new opportunities for employees of airports and airlines. Communication within the aviation community leads to a better understanding. A website with .aero can help to foster this process.

The domain names must no longer reflect company's name or a trade mark since September 2 2002. You can register now at .aero the name of your choice, e.g. a product or service. As this possibility exists since a short time, many good generic terms, which are an excellent and cheap advertising opportunity, are still free.Imagine how many visitors can attract terms like paris.aero, newyork.aero or travelagency.aero which are typed by consumers into the browers?
