CALY Networks and ATDI Partner to Promote Mesh Radio Technology
CALY Networks and ATDI are joining forces to promote the
value of mesh network technology as the most economic
broadband wireless solution for 3G backhaul.
Sunnyvale, California, USA, Crawley, England and Paris, France - February
27, 2002 - - -
CALY Networks, the leading developer of broadband fixed
wireless IP-based mesh radio networks, and ATDI, Europe's
leading provider of turnkey solutions for radio network planning
and modelling, today announced a joint effort to promote mesh network
solutions to the major telecom operators intent on
deploying 3G mobile networks in Europe and the USA.
CALY Networks has developed a new peer-to-peer,
multipoint-to-multipoint 'mesh' wireless network that enables
each node to communicate directly with another while obviating
the need for expensive hubs or base stations. Each installed
node acts both as an access point and as a router to other nodes,
or to the fibre infrastructure. CALYnet allows the mobile network
to aggregate traffic and deliver it to the best fibre connection.
The CALYnet system speeds time-to-revenue and reduces
both capital expenditures and operational costs.
"The combined ATDI/CALY solution provides mobile
operators with a far more flexible solution to their emerging
3G backhaul problems. Our intelligent wireless routing
algorithm takes the traffic from the cell site to the nearest
least-loaded, and most cost-effective fibre connection, which
usually is not at a cell site. This ensures mega-buck savings
and will help operators utilise some of the 95 million miles of
unlit fibre", commented Cees van der Stoep, Marketing Vice President of CALY
Networks.
"The business case for applying mesh technology in 3G
networks is powerful. I feel certain that the leading mobile
operators will adopt this for future solutions," said John Berry, Managing
Director of ATDI Ltd., in Crawley. ."Using our tools, network planners will
focus on the advantages of the CALYnet solution, modelling efficient network
performance across real
cities with real build-out plans". ATDI has enhanced its ICS Telecom product
to allow CALY's network management
software to optimise the network by minimising interference
and maximising resilience.
The ICS Telecom tool is key to planning 3G networks and
2G/3G network upgrades for data applications, as well as
the planning of stand alone broadband fixed wireless access
networks. Mesh networks are the economic solution in
bridging the gap between the terabit fibre network and the
cumulative gigabit traffic generated by these applications.
ATDI and CALY are jointly taking this solution to all the
leading mobile operators.
About CALY Networks:
CALY Networks www.calynetworks.com provides an entirely
new system for corporate broadband connections and wireless mobile backhaul.
This innovative solution is best described as
a wireless intelligent IP routing network using a mesh topology.
Founded in 1998, CALY is backed by strategic partners Lucent Venture
Partners, Nokia Venture Partners and Mustang Ventures
(an affiliate of Siemens AG) and financial investors ComVentures, The Sprout
Group (an affiliate of CS First Boston), Worldview Technology and Goldman
Sachs.
About ATDI:
ATDI www.atdi.com was established in 1991 initially focusing
on the provision of software for spectrum management and for broadcast and
microwave network planning. Over the past 10
years, the company has extended its competence and services
to every sector of civil and military radio communications.
Today, ATDI is a market leader in the provision of turnkey
solutions for network planning and modelling, spanning
software tools development, tool supply, engineering
consultancy, cartographic and geo-marketing data provision.
The ATDI group follows a worldwide direct sales strategy
