Inventor of Breakthrough Serotonin Supplement, SerotabŪ Launches Book During May's "Mental Health" Month

May is Mental Health Month. This doctor's latest book launches this month to promote his invention of the first and only Serotonin Oral Supplement to hit the market. It is a very timely topic of widespread concern.

WASHINGTON D.C., Tuesday, April 30, 2002 /Business Wire/ - Robert Posner, M.D, inventor of SerotabŪ, the first and only Serotonin Oral Supplement to hit the market, launches his first book this month. This book entitled "Doctor, I Have a Chemical Imbalance (The Serotonin Story)" shines the light on depression and other medical conditions that are largely caused by serotonin imbalances. It covers everything from ProzacŪ to St. John's Wort, how doctors evaluate test results, what factors can complicate an accurate diagnosis, explanation of common disorders and their symptoms, forms of treatment used, as well as the research behind the revolutionary product SerotabŪ he invented.

As a practicing internal medicine specialist for the past 20 years, Dr. Posner has treated thousands of patients for obesity, depression, anxiety, migraine headaches, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. Very often, mood orders (such as depression) are viewed negatively by public perception which tends to discourage a person from receiving the help they so desperately need. "If this book convinces just one reader to seek help for their medical problem, such as depression, then my book has been successful," hopes Dr. Posner. "One reason for writing this book", he explains, "is to help people achieve a better understanding of the treatment options available to them when they have a chemical imbalance causing their symptoms. I want to help people understand their illnesses so they may seek the help they need".

There have been numerous stories published in newspapers and aired by tv and radio stations nationwide, in the aftermath of September 11th, in which mental health experts have talked about how important it is to try to regain a sense of emotional balance and feelings of well being after such a traumatic event. Experiencing stress, a financial hardship, a job loss, death of a loved one, divorce or serious illness can negatively affect a person's quality of life and are reasons to seek professional help. "His commitment to bettering the lives of his patients is evident in everything he does," remarked one of his staff members when asked what impact she thought his book may have on people's lives in light of recent events.

May is "Mental Health" Month. According to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), depression and anxiety, which are the two most common mental health disorders, each affect 19 million Americans every year. Also, the NIMH states that major depression is the second leading cause of disability in the United States and worldwide. Depression can interfere with the ability to work, study, sleep, eat and enjoy once pleasurable activities. Symptoms may include: a persistent sad or anxious mood, feelings of hopelessness, guilt or irritability, loss of interest in nearly all activities, decreased energy, difficulty concentrating or making decisions and, in severe cases, thoughts of death or suicide. With more than one in five Americans having a mental health disorder, yet only 16 percent seeking treatment, it is Dr. Posner's hope that his book will help to alleviate some of the reluctance to seek help that so many sufferers feel.
