400 18-Year-Old Entrepreneurs Report On Their Businesses
400 first-year Babson College students will report on the success of the businesses that they ran as part of their required course load at Babson College. All profits go to local charities.
Approximately four hundred first-year students at Babson College have been required to run a business during their first year at college.
As part of their Foundation Management Experience (FME),they will deliver final reports on their ventures May 3, 2002 beginning at 8 a.m. in Tomasso Hall on the Babson campus. (http://foundation.babson.edu/FMEmain.htm)
FME is a full-year, two-semester course, which is required for all Babson undergraduate students. Central to the course is a learn-by-doing" philosophy. Teams of students began working together in September to develop business plans and present before a faculty" venture group. Fourteen ventures were launched in January and students will deliver their year-end reports Wednesday and Friday.
Each student business team logs weekly volunteer time and donates business profits to selected community service projects including:
Habitat for Humanity, Homeless Shelter for Hispanic Women and Children, Special Olympics Foundation, Elderly Center, Harvard Square Homeless Meal Program, Greater Boston Food Bank, and Barton Road Project. (http://www2.babson.edu/Babson/BabsonHPp.nsf/public/bernonFMEprojects)
