May 17, 2002, Fort Worth, Texas – Starting this August and running through November, the Global Language Centre in Fort Worth, Texas is launching seven and nine day Spanish Power Immersion Camps hosted at the Indian Lodge in the Davis Mountains State Park near Fort Davis, Texas.

During the camps, anywhere from 10 – 20 students will live and interact in small groups of twos and threes rotating amongst Spanish-speaking visitors from select countries and backgrounds. Speaking on topics from world politics to barbecue, students will engage in a variety of daily activities such as taking walks, playing games (Spanish Scrabble, Spanish Monopoly for example), swimming, hiking, or simply sitting around in the refreshing mile high climate conversing with a cup of coffee. In the evenings participants will be treated to selected cultural presentations including customs, movies, music, and dance. In addition to daily activities, participants will enjoy side excursions to the Fort Davis National Historical Site and the famous University of Texas McDonald Observatory.

This immersion camp program is different from others in that it incorporates language learning in a relaxed, vacation like setting using the same conversational approach as used successfully at Globals school for over ten years. We are not teaching so much as we are forcing the use of the language. Its a fun atmosphere for intermediate Spanish students to be able to ‘live the language," said Todd Greenfield, Global Language Centres Camp Program Director. The program is designed for adult students to hear and use the language outside of the protected and secure environment of the classroom.

We have had an amazing amount of interest from students for an intensive immersion style" program that is quick (7 - 9 days) and U.S. based. Many are married, some with families and too busy in their jobs to take off for several weeks to travel abroad," said Tommy Dyer, owner of Global Language Centre. Kelly Garboden, Marketing Director for Educational News Services El Puente magazine said, We definitely talk to a lot of people who are limited on time and simply dont want to travel outside the country. Now we know where to refer them!"
