Authors Unite To Write Against Cancer

A Texas-based author leads a group of fellow authors to unite and write against cancer by donating all proceeds from this new literary work, available for purchase June 28, toward a cure for the disease.

LUBBOCK, Texas (PRWEB) June 9, 2002 - Readers will almost literally be able to read for a cure for cancer when author Duane Simolkes(pronounced Dwain Smoky") latest work, The Acorn Gathering: Writers Uniting Against Cancer, is released on June 28, 2002. Simolke has combined the talents of a group of writers, including himself, to author the book, from which all sales proceeds will be donated to help find a cure for and to help benefit those who suffer from cancer.

The Acorn Gathering originally developed when Simolke was driving back to his home in Lubbock, Texas from a long trip, brainstorming about ways he could use his gift for writing as a gift to others who had not been as fortunate as he with their lives. After all, most Americans do not even have doctoral degrees, and even fewer have experienced fortune in the form of four previously published, successful literary works. It was after the trip, and in part due to having lost loved ones to cancer, that he decided to write for a cure for cancer.

Then The Acorn Gathering developed, as Simolke began to gather the writers together who he calls heroes" for volunteering their writing talents for such a worthy cause. The book is actually a spin-off of The Acorn Stories, Simolkes first book, but The Acorn Gathering will include other writers works, including his own.

Authors joining Simolke for his literary crusade against cancer are: Jan Chandler, who writes science fiction, fantasy, erotica and poetry; Shawna Chandler (www.srchandler.com), whose poetry has graced the pages of The Peralta Press, 3AM Magazine, The Journal of the Blue Planet, Coil Magazine, The Lubbock Magazine and many others; Huda Orfali, author of Blue Fire, a book of poetry and short fiction, and Flower in the Cold, a collection of short fiction; Bill Wetzel, a student at the University of Arizona who is a published poet and is currently working on his first novel; and Timothy Morris Taylor, an educator with a passion for the arts.

Simolke, who once though he would never find a cure for anything but comma splices, hopes sales of his most recent work make a positive difference in the lives of those who suffer from cancer, at the very least, but hes very hopeful his readers will help researchers come one step closer toward a cure.
