Desiree Scales, CEO of Bella Web Design, Inc. shares her voice and vision in the new book "The Entrepreneurial Parent: How to Earn Your Living From Home and Still Enjoy Your Family, Your Life, and Your Work." (A Tarcher/Putnam paperback original; June 10, 2002; $16.95 US)
In the book you will learn how she manages to raise a family and run a business with over 100 clients--all at the same time.
According to the authors, an "Entrepreneurial Parent" is a working parent who chooses to earn their living at home, making a decision to take an active, around the clock role in parenting their children. Desiree is one of 111 parents featured in the book and making the same decision--a decision becoming more and more popular in this age of layoffs and pink slips.
Desiree started Bella Web Design from home in 1998 after her first child was born. She was working for a major airline and was told she couldn't telecommute. She quit her job and started the company with a handful of clients. "I didn't even know that being self-employed was what I wanted until I was told I couldn't work from home," she states in the book. Two years later, she had her second child and her husband, Rob, joined the company full-time.
The book highlights Desiree's transferable skills, knowledge and experience, how she made the decision to start the company and how she has remained successful through these slow economic times. Her business continues to grow steadily.
There is also a section about how Desiree started the "Stress Management Center" for www.en-parent.com. Some of her coping tools for managing stress are featured in the book. One example, "Meditation is a wonderful way to focus on your ultimate business goals and to reduce the stress involved in meeting them."
"I'm proud to be featured in a book that will help thousands find their way to a better life through running their business from home and encourages the fact that family values are crucial to a long-term business strategy." states, Desiree.
She speaks regularly to college students about the future of the Internet and Web Design and how she started her own business. She has also received accolades from other business owners who've attended her educational seminars about leveraging the Internet to help them build their business.
