Nothing has changed that we know of...
The scene is a farmers market on a dirt road in Georgia. Willy is selling tomatoes and so is Billy. Willy has a clean stand with easy to read signs and fine produce. Everything is in order and the customers linger. Billys stand is disorderly and the signs are confusing. He is playing an accordion while his dog does tricks. His stand is cluttered and dirty. The customers take a quick look and leave, not even bothering to check the quality of the produce. Willy does a fine business that day while Billy does not. What did Billy do wrong?

Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) June 14, 2002 - Pick up a business magazine or do a little research online and youll read from yet another expert" telling you what your business needs in a website. Some will say, have a central focus," while others will say, bells and whistles are bad" and others will tell you, you cant do it yourselves." Their information is so general that it could have come out of a marketing textbook from the 1920s. Either that or it is just plain opinion.
The truth is the Internet is still so young that no one knows what is right and everyone is still guessing. They like to pass themselves off as experts so that they can charge you ridiculous fees as they act as your consultant." And another truth is that what applied in marketing in the 1920s still applies when adapted to todays technology.
Have a central focus, be easily navigable, dont overdue the goodies and treats, be careful of download times, watch the clutter, avoid cheesy music."
Do you want to pay some consultant to tell you that? You knew that. Those pitfalls are now 5 years behind us.
As for you cant do it yourselves," that is another matter.
Sure, there are many easy to use software tools that have revolutionized the web, but you still need to be careful. If you do decide to do it yourself, at least bring in another person from your company or your family, or two or three people, and bounce your ideas and your designs off of them. Unless you are a skilled artist or graphic designer, there is the chance that your web site might look homemade. And we can guess what a marketing textbook from the ‘20s might have to say about that. Some things are different than the fresh produce stand of 1921.
First Impression. Impact. Attention. Top of mind. Sales. It is how we are judged. Your web site looks homemade? People will consider you second-rate. You have silly bells and whistles? You are gimmicky and goofy. You may as well be playing an accordion while your dog does tricks. People arent stupid. Theyve been to the Farmers Market before.
