Three paintings by artist Gary Bolyer of New York City are scheduled to hang in the American embassy in the former Soviet Union for the next three years. The original oil paintings "Montauk Point No. 1," "Central Park Street Lamp" and "Orange Umbrella at Fire Island" will hang in the Ambassidorial residence in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
The works were chosen through The Art in Embassies Program established by the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C. in 1964 to promote national pride and American cultural identity. Artists are chosen by collaboration between the ambassador and the program curator.
Bolyer is a native of Louisiana and holds a B.F.A. in painting from Louisiana State University. He relocated to New York City in 1998, where his work is available through Renee Fotouhi Fine Art and the George Billis Gallery in Manhattan.
Bolyer's paintings have been exhibited in galleries for over 10 years, including the Barnwell Garden and Art Center and the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum in Shreveport. His work was recently featured in a solo exhibit at the Edward Williams Gallery on the campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University in Hackensack, New Jersey.
