A New and Affordable AMR and PLC solution

A new AMR (Automatic Meter Reading) solution using the Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum Technology that significantly reduces the cost.

Archnet (www.archnetco.com)just announced a new AMR(Automatic Meter Reading) solution using the Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum Technology. The new technology in Power Line Carrier (PLC) communication is well known for its high immunity to electrical noise persistent in the power line. While maintaining the capability of bi-directional half-duplex PLC communication, this solution can help improve power line communication in a noisy environment.

Another added advantage is the reduction in cost. The cost per meter of an AMR system, which can be higher than the cost of the meter itself, is always a concern in the AMR industry.    With Archnet's new solution, this cost will also be greatly reduced. It is estimated, for quantity order, the cost per meter can be as low as US$12 - a significant reduction from the existing AMR systems. The Meter Interface Unit (MIU) can be built-in to the meter as an option of an electric meter or embedded into the meters by retrofitting. Alternatively, Archnet can also provide a standalone MIU that can interface to any meters with pulse output, such that Water Meters, Gas Meters, Electric Meters and other meters can be connected to the same AMR system.

The very same technology can also be used in other PLC applications, such as Home Automation, low speed Power Line Data Communication, Fire and Security Systems, Information Display and Industrial Controls. Archnet is due to announce its solution in each of these application areas.

More information is available on Archnet's website at www.archnetco.com.
