Deadline for the August Uplifting Minds II Talent Competition approaches Music World, J Records, Epic/Sony, 410 Music, Longevity Records, Universal Music Group and Jive Records sponsor the next Uplifting Minds II

(Baltimore, Maryland-June 12, 2002) ­ The deadline for the Saturday, August 24th "Uplifting Minds II" Talent Competition is June 30, 2002. The competition features music (instrumental or vocal), art (including dance), literature (including song writing) and fashion design. For ages 7 - 21 years old, the national talent competition is free to enter. Competitors from across the country will showcase before industry executives and peers.

Industry executives who have currently confirmed their presence are Mathew Knowles, manager of Destinyıs Child and president of Music World Music/Columbia Records; Audrey Batts-White , Product Manager at J Records; Jazz from Dru Hill; Kevin Peck, original manager of Dru Hill and president of 410 MUSIC; Ernesto Phillips, known for "discovering" Toni Braxton and president of Longevity Records; Joe Cerini, A&R Rep. for Epic/Sony Records; Meisha Rice, Marketing Field Rep. for Universal Music Group; Jimmy Maynes, Sr. V.P. of A&R and R&B at Jive Records/NY; Gary Wade, Sr., president of Omni Distribution; Norman Gibson, president of Gray Sandz Entertainment; and ShaRhonda Wilson, president of Ultimate Events.

"Uplifting Minds II" will be held at Security Square Mall in Baltimore on Saturday, August 24 from 1 - 5 p.m. (admission is free). The last date of the year will be held Saturday, December 14 at North Line Mall in Houston, Texas. "Uplifting Minds II" Talent Competition's Baltimore event is presented by The Baltimore Times, the most widely distributed African American-owned weekly publication in Maryland and the Houston event is presented by Music World Music/Columbia Records owned by Mathew Knowles.

The music, song writing and dance category entries will be showcased at the event with the art/rendering, literature and fashion design entries prejudged and announced at the event. Prejudging executives consist of Michael Houston, screen writer, author and father of Batman from IMx; Zane, national best selling author; Rev. James Kessee', owner of Snap Shot Art Gallery in Southern California; Travis Winkey, former worldwide model and president of Travis Winkey Studios, Ronda Bell, owner of Ronda's Boutique and buyer for several Maryland boutiques, and Dena Wane, Managing Editor of The Baltimore Times. Winners in these categories will be showcased at the event.

Winners will have their demo submitted personally to BabyFace and/or Carol Bayer-Sager; a CD full of interviews of people such as Russell Simmons and Boyz II Men giving excellent advice; guaranteed spot on a local television show, guaranteed art placement at a California Gallery, and so much more.

The August competition is sponsored by Radio One, Security Square Mall, Music World Music/Columbia Records, WMAR-TV, LOVE-TV, Maynes Entertainment, Jive Records/NY, 410 Music, J Records, Addlib Entertainment, Taj Entertainment, Universal Music Group, Allure Limo Service, Omni Distribution, Longevity Records, Gray Sandz Entertainment, www.tonos.com, Epic/Sony Records, Luster Products, Inc., Balloons Over Maryland, www.insidethemusicbusiness.com, DJ Swen BoosweetRecords.com, Baltimore City Community College, www.snapshotartgallery.com, and Freelance Associates (a public relations and promotions consulting firm).

The event begins with a "professional panel," followed by the competition
and ending with a "professional showcase." The "professional showcase" will have performances by "professional" acts. In the past Jazz and Sisqo of Dru Hill (Def Jam Records), Ruff Endz (Epic Records), Naomi (Two Sista Records), comedian Howard G and Talib Kareem (Addlib Records and former member of Imajin/Jive Records) performed. The August date will also showcase an act hand-picked by BabyFace from those who submit demos to his TONOS.COM site.
