SOFTWIN has launched its proprietary DRM solution

SOFTWINs DRM solution is tailored to the inherent needs of the publishing industry, namely the protection of electronic content from unauthorized access and distribution. It focuses on the management of digital rights concerning that specific content, by interdicting its involuntary as well as the voluntary non-authorized distribution.

Bucharest, June 18, 2002. SOFTWIN– the leading provider of conversion and consulting services for the Publishing industry, launched its proprietary DRM solution at the Bucharest Book Fair 2002, the most important event of this kind in Romania, held between 22-26 of May.

SOFTWINs DRM solution enables content owners and distributors to securely deliver books in electronic format through their website. This is a cost-effective solution integrating all the advantages of the electronic format: quick access anytime, anywhere; real-time updates of information to keep it current, accurate, reliable and personalized experience for every user. The electronic format provides users the possibility to redefine the content, by including their own comments, highlights, to re-arrange different sections of interest. Moreover, users will be able to access rich, interactive and dynamic content, enjoying high-quality reading experiences.

The client can receive the requested book or newspaper by email, on CD-ROM, or he can download it from the publishers website directly to his computer. Whether publishers opt for online or offline distribution of their content, SOFTWINs DRM solution prevents the unauthorized multiplication and distribution of the published content, by encrypting the content and controlling the usage options available to a specific user (printing, saving to file, copy-paste, print screen).

The solution is highly customizable, targeting the entire process of electronic content distribution. It provides not only a client-side application which controls printing, copy-pasting, saving and even classical Print Screen key, but also the server-side automatic content preparation tools and even a customizable virtual bookstore. The main idea is that of a unique license which identifies a class of content, the rights associated and the user allowed to access it.

Content publishers are becoming aware of new digital distribution opportunities, but they are also aware of the fact that weak links in the chain of digital content flow may seriously affect their business, by unauthorized multiplication and distribution. SOFTWINs DRM solution is designed essentially to protect their business by managing the security, usage and reproduction of digital content", said Florin Talpes, SOFTWINs CEO.

SOFTWINs solution targets the entire range of publishing agents, with a plus on natural management of periodic content delivery (journals, updates, newsletters) following complex rules in a controlled manner.
