The deal will present carriers new sources of revenues and render competitive mobile service offerings to their augmenting pool of subscribers

Singapore - June 19, 2002 - Mobilewayâ, leader in managing and monetizing mobile transactions across the globe today announced the availability of MSN Hotmail to mobile phones across three Asian Markets: Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan. This follows the agreements made with three mobile operators in the region to offer MSN HotmailŪ Web-based e-mail service via two-way short message service (SMS). These mobile operators include Hong Kong CSL Ltd, SingTel in Singapore and Chunghwa Telecom in Taiwan.

The agreement, which follows successful carrier trials of the MSN Hotmail SMS service in both Chinese and English in the region, will present the three mobile operators additional sources of revenues and render more competitive and compelling mobile services to their subscribers, thereby increasing loyalty.

"The introduction of e-mail access via SMS will benefit mobile operators by lowering the cost of entering an increasingly competitive global market as no further investment in hardware or software is required. It will also create opportunities for new revenue streams and ensure that the data traffic received by mobile users is timely and secured," said Cyrille Even, General Manager and Vice President of Mobileway Asia Pacific.

Under the agreement, these first three operators will be able to extend the service to their subscribers, the option to receive e-mail sent by SMS to their MSN Hotmail accounts on their mobile phones. They will be able to reply to those e-mail messages directly to the sender's inbox via SMS and perform other common tasks directly from their phone.

"We are delighted to be the first operator in Hong Kong to launch MSN Hotmail via SMS. From now on, CSL customers can access their personal email accounts with their mobiles anytime, anywhere." said Marisa Kwok, Director, Marketing and Operations of CSL, "CSL leads the market in offering the most comprehensive mobile email and messaging service for both business and personal use. The launch of MSN Hotmail via SMS enriches our messaging service portfolio and offers an effective way for our customers to manage their personal emails while away from the office or home."

A representative from Chunghwa Telecom said, "Taiwan boasts one of the highest mobile penetration rates in the world. The mobile device has evolved to become an integral part of a mobile users's life and it makes every sense for us to offer value-added services to our subscribers to enhance their mobile Internet lifestyle; we are very pleased to be the first operator in Taiwan to launch this new service".

The service utilizes Mobileway's Message Tracker solutionwhich uses XML Web Services and Microsoft .NET to uniquely provide the ability to adapt to the complex nature of the Asian mobile communications market, where the SMS infrastructure requirements, billing arrangements and other SMS features vary from operator to operator.

This service is the first of a series to be introduced to Asia Pacific following a partnership forged between Mobileway and MSN in May. The next service to be rolled out will be the MSN Messenger Service via SMS to consumers by the third quarter of this year.
