Chemical-Biological Sensor Integration Platform from RTI Relies on Embedded PC/104 Hardware from parvus Corp.

Automated Biological Point Detection System Leverages PC/104 Architecture to Enable Early-Warning Detection of and Response to Biological Warfare Events

FAIRFAX, VA / SALT LAKE CITY, UT - JUNE 19, 2002 - parvus Corporation today announced that the world's most advanced chemical-biological point detection system infrastructure, SensorView, leverages embedded PC/104 hardware components from parvus.

Relying on parvus' 10BaseT Ethernet Hub and Ethernet Network Interface (NIC) Boards, SensorView is able to remotely command and control a network of nuclear, biological, and chemical detectors, collectors, identifiers and triggers to deliver early-warning automated detection, identification and communication of biological warfare agents (BWAs) and events.

Created by software development company, Ricciardi Technologies, Inc. (RTI), the SensorView System is the same "Pedigree" control system that is used in the only point detection system slated for mass production by the Joint Program Office for Biological Defense (JPO-DS) of the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).

The Environmental Fan Card from parvus was also used in SensorView's PC/104 card stack to cool the unit's power supply and CPU module. The Fan Card offers RTI an intelligent PC/104 thermal management solution that uses dual fans and a temperature sensor to circulate air and monitor internal chassis conditions. The SensorView Control Unit (SVCU) is available through RTI and can be packaged in a rugged aluminum enclosure from parvus if desired. (Note: artwork of the SVCU PC/104 card stack is available from parvus upon request).

"RTI specifically selected parvus' PC/104 computer boards as the foundation for the SensorView Control Unit (SVCU) because of PC/104's characteristic advantages over other form factors and parvus' ability to supply high-performance Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) embedded components," said David Godso, Director of Engineering for RTI.

After more than two years of writing source code for the SensorView system and preparing it for market, RTI expects SensorView to be used for both homeland security initiatives, as well as civilian first response agencies. Leveraging commercially available PC/104 computer hardware from parvus, RTI was able to develop the SensorView control unit without any near-term end-of-life issues and with the widespread vendor support for PC/104 technology. See www.SensorView.com for more info.
