IDENTIGENE LAUNCHES DNA FAMILY FIND - WORLDS FIRST DNA DATABASE
FOR REUNITING CHILDREN AND BIRTH PARENTS
HOUSTON, Texas – For the first time ever, children and parents will be given a new opportunity to be reunited with one another through the use of DNA technology. IDENTIGENE, an industry leader in DNA identification testing, has launched a revolutionary new service that will allow anyone seeking a birth child or parent to submit his or her DNA sample to a database that contains DNA samples from others who are also searching for missing birth parents or children. Every time a new DNA sample is added to the database it will automatically be compared to other samples in the database to determine if there is a genetic match.
Traditional search methods require knowing at least some information about the lost birth relative, such as their social security number, name, and birthplace," said Caroline Caskey, president of IDENTIGENE. Many people looking for someone either know very little about the person they are searching for, or the little information they do have is inaccurate, preventing them from successfully locating the missing birth relative. The process can be extremely expensive and time consuming if you hire private investigators or spend time locating old records or tracking down previous acquaintances. Through DNA identification, individuals searching for biological children or parents do not need to know any information about the person they are searching for. They simply submit their DNA sample to the database to determine if there is a match."
This new service is available to anyone who is searching for their biological children or parents, but it is especially useful for adoptees or parents who gave a child up for adoption. Once a person registers for the service, a DNA testing kit is mailed to them, and individuals collect their own DNA sample by using a simple cotton cheek swab. Clients return the swab to IDENTIGENE for processing, and IDENTIGENE then tests and adds the unique DNA profile to the database, where it will be automatically compared to other samples in the database. If two DNA samples match, both parties are notified that their biological parent or child has been found. In the case that no match is found, the sample remains in the database for five years with the opportunity to renew for another five years.
Searching for a birth relative causes a great deal of stress and anxiety in a persons life," said Caskey. DNA testing can resolve many of these unanswered questions about biological relationships and family ties. We envision this new service as a way to bring Peace of Mind to the thousands of individuals who are searching for answers, but have had nowhere to turn until now."
IDENTIGENE markets this new service as DNA Family Find. Individuals can register for this service by contacting IDENTIGENE directly at 800-DNA-TYPE.
