Deloitte Consulting and Siemens study proves the benefits of IP convergence

Significant return on investment and value through increased revenue generation and operating costs savings.

Significant return on investment and value through increased revenue generation and operating costs savings.

Deloitte Consulting and Siemens have today published a study on IP Convergence: The Executives Guide to Practical Convergence”. This report demonstrates that for many organizations converged IP solutions can help to increase value, both today and in the future, and provides a practical guide for evaluation. Benefits across all three dimensions of value – revenue growth, operating margin and asset productivity – can be achieved now by implementing converged IP solutions.

Key benefits were found to be increased employee productivity, reduced operating costs, lower capital expenditure, reduced TCO (Total Cost of Ownership), and an improved ability to attract and retain new customers. The short-term ROI (Return on Investment) alone demonstrates quick wins and improved credibility for future rollouts. These benefits can be achieved by any organization, large or small, public or private, provided that converged IP solutions are implemented in a way that is consistent with business needs and leverages the existing infrastructure.

The report shows that converged IP solutions can help CxOs (Chief Officers in general) demonstrate ROI, as well as reduce operating costs and improve the environment for revenue generation. Converged IP solutions reduce network costs, while preparing the organization for new ways of doing business, such as using enhanced multimedia and interactivity both inside and outside the organization. This will drive revenue growth and increase enterprise productivity by creating new possibilities to deliver services, while improving asset productivity and business processes.

As a practical guide the study delivers an easy, well-structured approach to the evaluation of business needs and their solutions. The report gives practical hints on how to benefit from converged IP solutions and discusses different approaches, for example, explore, migrate, replace for implementation. The right” approach depends on the business needs and the readiness of the organization. In general it concludes that for many organizations, the Migrate” approach provides the best opportunity for progressing to converged IP services, as it allows organizations to manage the internal business change that is fundamental for the successful adoption of technology and its impact on customers, employees and business processes.
