SUPERTEX OFFERS WORLDS SMALLEST HOTSWAP CONTROLLER AND QUAD SUPPLY SEQUENCING ICs HV302/HV312 Provides (-10V to -90V) or (10V to 90V) Hotswap Power Management and BMP Sequencing

The HV302/ HV312 hotswap controllers provide advanced hotswap power management capabilities with user programmability of the startup delays and turn-on sequence of up to four board mounted power (BMP) supplies.

Sunnyvale, Calif., June 18, 2002 – Supertex, Inc. (NASDAQ: SUPX) today introduced the HV302/ HV312 hotswap controllers that provide advanced hotswap power management capabilities with user programmability of the startup delays and turn-on sequence of up to four board mounted power (BMP) supplies. Programming the time interval between turn-ons is accomplished using a simple resistor for each supply, allowing up to 200ms between events. The ICs are targeted at BMP applications in telecom, networking, servers and storage. The HV302/HV312 reduce cost and component count (only eight external components plus a pass element are required), while freeing up valuable PCB real estate by utilizing a small, 14-pin SOIC package.
Before the HV302/HV312, sequencing of BMP supplies typically required complex discrete solutions or large ICs with many pins and complicated, restrictive EEPROM programming requirements. In addition to sequencing, the HV302/HV312 feature advanced power management functions including UV/OV and POR for debounce, circuit breaker, optional auto retry and a normally-on clamp to eliminate turn-on spikes. The ICs are manufactured using Supertexs advanced high voltage technology that offers 90V operation even at high temperatures and eliminates the need for additional TVS clamping components in most applications.
Today many live backplane systems are moving towards distributed power and redundant architectures. Many next generation processors, FPGAs and DSPs require multiple, well-regulated voltage supplies to operate correctly. They also require that these supplies turn on in a specific way or damage can occur. The HV302/HV312 make it easy for designers to meet these requirements,” states David Schie, Vice President of Supertexs Telecom and Broadband Product Group.
The HV302/HV312 retain the patent-pending I-mode control algorithms featured in all of the Supertex HV3xx family of hotswap controllers. These algorithms make the HV3xx series the industrys only hotswap controllers capable of working with either capacitor or servo feedback, while also featuring built-in auto-retry (with provision for disable). Additionally, the current mode architecture provides hardware designers the flexibility to program the turn-on power profile. The HV302 is active high enable; the HV312 is active low enable.
Supertex offers technical support, demo boards, gerbers and BOMs. Samples of the HV302LG/HV312LG are available from stock in SOIC-14 packages. Lead time for production quantities is 4 to 5 weeks ARO, priced at $2.59 each in 10K quantities.
