Group Jazz and Bolster Education host summer 'Math Camp For Parents'
(WASHINGTON, DC - June 17, 2001) Parents and other caregivers of Kindergarten through 4th grade kids are invited to participate in Math Camp for Parents, an innovative online event hosted by classroom teachers.
The virtual summer camp is intended to explain basic number concepts and provide useful teaching strategies for young children. Experienced teachers provide insight into math education. Interactive discussions offer important information on the value of early math. Practical activities deepen attendees understanding and familiarity with educational terms and classroom practice. Math experts host a facilitated discussion, Number Sense--what is it and why does it matter. Participate in an experience designed to help your child succeed in math.
One teacher describes it this way…"Math Camp for Parents provides real tools for parents to use to engage their children and help them to think mathematically while on that summer road trip, at the supermarket, and during other day-to-day activities. It is so important that elementary school students develop an understanding of numbers, ways of representing numbers, relationships among numbers, and number systems -- and parents can play an important role in this development."
Registered attendees join other "Virtual Campers" through any Internet enabled computer, either at home or work. Camp sessions last a full week and offer Campers access to a variety of math related organizational, online, and printed resources. Campers can login anytime to converse with other Campers (aka Parents) and Teacher experts. After both Camp sessions conclude, all Campers receive a CD ROM archive of presentations and resources.
This summer register for either session--
