SIBERCORE TECHNOLOGIES AND BAY MICROSYSTEMS ANNOUNCE PARTNERSHIP TO DELIVER INTEROPERABLE OC-192 PACKET PROCESSING SOLUTIONS
Deterministic pipeline architecture together with advanced ternary CAMs provides comprehensive packet processing and switching so
SiberCore Technologies, a leading manufacturer of high-performance packet management solutions using advanced ternary content addressable memory (TCAM) technology, and Bay Microsystems, a developer of a new class of network processor/traffic manager that combines scalability, intelligence processing and ultra-high performance in highly integrated single chip solutions, today announced their strategic partnership.
OTTAWA, CANADA and SANTA CLARA, CA - June 25, 2002 - SiberCore Technologies, a leading manufacturer of high-performance packet management solutions using advanced ternary content addressable memory (TCAM) technology, and Bay Microsystems, a developer of a new class of network processor/traffic manager that combines scalability, intelligence processing and ultra-high performance in highly integrated single chip solutions, today announced their strategic partnership. This strategic partnership provides the immediate availability of a seamless interface and interoperability between SiberCore's SiberCAM product family and Bay Microsystems' recently introduced Montego OC-192c/10G network processor.
To help support customers' design efforts, SiberCore and Bay Microsystems have designed a development line card in order to verify interoperability between Bay Microsystems' Montego OC-192c/10G network processor and SiberCore's SiberCAM product family. In addition, Bay Microsystems has introduced its Internetworking Development System (IDS) a robust simulation and emulation design environment and complete OEM system reference design. This will enable system designers to verify wire-speed processing in applications such as core and edge routers, guaranteed quality of service (QoS), virtual private networks (VPN), and voice over Internet protocol (VoIP).
The glueless interface between the SiberCore and Bay devices simplifies the development process and maximizes system performance while exploiting the full feature set and performance of the devices. These capabilities dramatically reduce the time-to-market and extend the time-in-market for networking OEMs, in contrast with internal development efforts typically based on custom application specific integrated circuits (ASICs).
"Together, Bay Microsystems and SiberCore have defined and implemented glueless interoperable products that give networking equipment developers the ability to bring OC-192c and 10Gigabit solutions to market with off-the-shelf, standard components, optimized for these high speeds," said Peter Becke, SiberCore's president and CEO. "Providing seamless interoperability between Bay Microsystems' integrated network processors and traffic management devices and our SiberCAM co-processor product family ensures designers receive a solution that is optimized for their applications in terms of throughput performance, power consumption and board space."
"SiberCore has continued to set the standard for performance, density, power reduction and enhanced classification functionality," said Chuck Gershman, Bay's senior vice president of marketing. "Their innovative three port CAM architecture gives our customers much greater flexibility in designing their system solutions without compromising performance."
SiberCore's SiberCAM product line is a large capacity packet forwarding and classification co-processor family of devices, based on the company's industry leading TCAM technology. The SiberCAM network co-processors significantly increase switch and router throughput by off-loading packet forwarding and classification functions from the network processor. In addition, the SiberCAM's unique 3-port interface allows equipment developers to perform route and policy table management without impacting the search process, providing for sustained performance at up to 100 million searches per second (MSPS). SiberCore's SiberCAM co-processor solutions provide customers with options in extending the search functionality required in some advanced services applications.
Bay Microsystems' Montego processor uses an innovative, deterministic pipeline architecture to achieve guaranteed sustainable packet processing of 31.25 million packets per second (MPPS) regardless of traffic patterns or network services, while supporting data throughput of up to 16 Gb/s. The deterministic pipeline architecture also enables the functional integration of an OC-192c/10G network processor and traffic manager in a single chip solution. Designed with a 0.18 micron CMOS process, Montego dramatically reduces chip count and associated power for today's highest performance carrier class applications from access to long haul.
SiberCore's SiberCAM Ultra-2M and Ultra-9M are available and shipping to customers today with a glueless interface for Bay's Montego processor. Future SiberCore SiberCAM products will be compatible with the Montego processor and future Internetworking Processor (InP) product family members.
Sample quantities of the Montego processor are available now and production quantities will be available in the third quarter of this year.
