PATENT IS A VIRTUE
Leading Scots Mobile Content Company granted Messaging patent
Leading Mobile content innovators, Saw-you® , recently recognised by Fortune magazine as the coolest International Business of 2002, will be granted a full 100% UK patent for their messaging technologies on 3 July 2002. The patent which has been two and a half years in the processing signals a massive strategic leap in terms of consolidating the company's exploitable assets within the marketplace and with key industry partners.
Mike Kinsella, Founder and CEO of Saw-you.com, commented, 'This is a real industry first in this sector. The patent will be backdated to June 2000 when the process was initiated in the US. Applications have been rolled out in every major market space, but the UK was top of our list, given its well known difficult history with Software and process based IPR. Everyone at Saw-you is hugely pleased with the grant of patent for our innovative technology. Now, we have a stake in the ground, a means of protection and, more importantly, an exploitable asset that we and our partners can comfortably build upon.'
Kinsella further added, 'Since this is the first major patent to be awarded in the mobile chat arena in the UK, it's going to have an impact on services operating within the mobile industry. While awaiting patent status, we have held back the release of our .net platform for WAP/GPRS that allows the service to be used on any mobile device including PDA's. Now that we have the added security of the UK patent, we can roll this unique service out into the public domain in its entirety. The NEW service really is stunning, it heralds a new era in mobile content – the compelling, relevant, immediate and easy-to-use has arrived! Watch this space.'

Notes to editors:
Technology
Saw-You's Descriptive Instant Messaging Engine uses PC-based Internet, mobile phone based Internet (WAP) and SMS to allow communication between devices without the need for phone numbers or e-mail addresses. Using fuzzy logic, its data-mining server can identify individual users according to their own descriptive profile and location. By using a simple SMS template or drop down menu on WAP, the user can quickly identify someone within their immediate social space and instantly message them.
Users construct a 'social fingerprint' containing their description, their social locations, their interests and favoured brands. Key elements, such as clothing, venue or drinks can be updated live. The Locative Instant Messaging Engine automatically groups venues, whether real or virtual, allowing users to easily – and anonymously - identify each other.
