World Wide Packets Access Concentrators bring new services and scalability to Platte River Power Authoritys SCADA network.

Lightning Edge 211 and Lightning Edge 410 Concentrators selected to support enhanced SCADA and security services.

Spokane, WA and Ft Collins, CO – June 24, 2002 – World Wide Packets equipment will enhance the Platte River Power Authoritys existing SCADA services, and bring new management capabilities such as video surveillance. Platte River will install LightningEdge 211 Concentrators in each of its substations, along with LightningEdge 410 Concentrators in Gigabit Ethernet loops surrounding Estes Park, Fort Collins, Longmont, and Loveland, Colorado. World Wide Packets Solution was the most effective we saw when we looked at alternatives to our existing SONET infrastructure," said Bruce Reynolds, Platte River Systems Maintenance Manager. The solution is less expensive, easy to provision and manage and allows us to support the additional applications we want."

The Platte River Power Authority joins a growing number of utilities choosing to transition to the flexibility, scalability, and functionality of Ethernet. Such a transition is cost-effective, at a price substantially below that of a SONET upgrade, and Ethernet provides the reliability essential to mission critical SCADA functions. As an added benefit, utilities are finding that the capacity demands of even the most advanced SCADA and utility video applications are easily supported by an Ethernet over fiber system, opening the door for utilities to support community development in surrounding areas. Utilities are stepping up to bring connectivity to customers otherwise not served. As time goes on, true broadband access may become almost as important to customers as power itself. The Platte River Power Authority can be proud of being a pioneer in this area, replicating in telecommunications what it has accomplished with electrical power in the western United States," said Bernard Daines, CEO of World Wide Packets.
