Online Mentors Support New Teachers at Teachers.Net

Teachers.Net will provide online mentors in live format for new teachers during a week in September, 2002.

SAN DIEGO, CA -- Teachers.Net will support new teachers during a week in September with online mentor consultants (veteran and retired educators) who will respond in live chat format to questions, pleas for advice and help with locating necessary resources during 5 evenings September 9-13, 2002, from 8:00-9:00pm ET in the Teachers.Net Meeting Room http://teachers.net/meetings.

Long the Internet leader in providing and nurturing peer support among educators, Teachers.Net provides resources for all members of the global education community. Established in 1996, Teachers.Net has grown steadily and dramatically for the past 6 years, adding features as needed by those who teach and those who guide school districts from administrative offices.

Virtually every member of the education community will find a forum devoted to his or her grade level, specialty, curricular area, or interest. Teachers.Net is quick to offer new resources when there is a demonstrated need.

"If educators need a forum, we have it. If we don't have it, we'll add it," says site administrator Bob Reap. The newest additions to Teachers.Net include affiliate sites for educators in all U.S. states and the District of Columbia, a forum for discussing professional readings, and a Kindergarten teachers' center with chatboard, lessons, and mailring.

Just some of the features available for new and veteran teachers:

*Mentor Chatboards http://teachers.net/mentors;
*E-mail discussion groups http://teachers.net/mailrings;
*Lessons Bank (searchable) with more than 2500 entries http://teachers.net/lessons;
*Archived meeting transcripts http://teachers.net/archives;
*Live chat meetings nightly http://teachers.net/meetings
*Social & collegial support 24/7 http://teachers.net/chatrooms
