GFI launches EventLogScan, a free online event log scanning service

Gives users an immediate view of critical security events occurring on their PC

GFI today launched EventLogScan, a free web-based service enabling users to check for high security events happening on their PC, such as users logging on to the machine, failed logon attempts, security policy changes, and more. Powered by GFI LANguard Security Event Log Monitor, EventLogScan is available at http://www.gfi.com/eventlogscan.

EventLogScan is an immediate online service that analyses all the events in the users security event log and produces an HTML report listing all the critical, high and medium security events found on the users machine, with a brief explanation of each. This way, users can automatically see how secure their system is without having to manually sort through the many security events generated by their machine each day – an activity that users usually do not have enough time for or do not know how to perform, due to the event logs cryptic/non-existent security event explanations and because of "noise" events that make up a large ratio of all security events.

GFIs new online EventLogScan service provides users with a simple and immediate way to check if any critical security events are occurring on their PC," said Nick Galea, GFI CEO. EventLogScan categorizes security events and removes noise events automatically, and allows users to quickly see whether other users are logging on to their machine, for example."

EventLogScan is driven by GFI LANguard S.E.L.M. which monitors the security event logs of all the Windows XP/2000/NT machines on a network, providing intrusion detection, network security reporting and real-time alerts about possible security breaches.

EventLogScan requirements

For EventLogScan to run, the users operating system must be Windows NT, 2000 or XP, and Internet Explorer 4 or later must be installed. Besides, auditing must be switched on and the user must have rights and privileges to access the security log on his/her machine. As the user is required to download a signed ActiveX control in order to activate the test, the Internet security settings must be set to Medium. More information is available at http://www.gfi.com/eventlogscan.
