BUYER BEWARE OF BANDIT MOVERS SAYS THE MOVING WORLD
Jennifer Peak knew her move could be stressful. What she never anticipated was that a routine move could turn into a disaster, only saved by the last minute intervention of The Moving World, a reputable transportation broker who saved her from the clutches of a moving bandit.
As we enter into the peak period of the moving season, moving scams abound and moving bandits are feasting upon innocent victims. The move itself that Peak contracted for was simple enough. She was moving from Delaware to Ottawa, Canada and had secured the services of National Relocation Services. National subcontracted with Classic Moving. They originally quoted her $4,525.70 to move her two-bedroom apartment. They even required an $800 deposit.
This is where the move began to turn into a nightmare. After Classic Moving loaded her goods into their truck at 4AM on July 6, they attempted to coerce Jennifers friend into signing a contract for an additional $4,990 in packing services, even though the packing services were to have been included in her original estimate. Then, Classic contacted Peak on July 8 to say her household goods were sitting in a warehouse in Ridgefield, NJ. Classic had no intention of moving her goods to Canada until she wired them an additional $4,220.
To make matters worse, Peak had purchased $350 through Nationwides insurance provider, Baker International. Once Peak realized she was dealing with a bandit mover, she contacted Baker International immediately. Unfortunately, Baker had no record of her insurance purchase.
Peak has been working with Detective Barzellatto of the New Jersey Police Department and Pat Daily of the Attorneys General Office in Delaware. However, it was not until she contacted Brian Tsuchiya, President of The Moving World that a concrete plan was put in place to get back her possessions.
The Moving World is an Internet-based transportation broker that only contracts with reliable, reputable moving companies. They have built their industry reputation for excellent customer service by not only executing smooth-free moves, but educating consumers as well. Unfortunately, they often get hysterical phone calls from consumers who have been misled or contracted with a moving bandit.
Our mission at the Moving World is to provide customers with peace of mind," said Tsuchiya. Unfortunately, it is moving bandits like this that give the moving industry a bad name. It is vitally important customers research moving companies to know the good from the bad and to know their rights under federal law. For instance, federal law prohibits moving companies from charging over 10% of their original estimate. In addition to our website at www.TheMovingWorld.com, consumers can become more informed by reading articles on www.movingscam.com and www.badmovers.net.
This story will have a happy ending – many are not so lucky in retrieving their goods from movers that hold them hostage. Accompanied by a police escort, The Moving World has contracted with Allied Van Lines to retrieve Peaks goods from the warehouse in New Jersey on July 23rd . As her goods make it safely home, thousands of consumers will continue to be taken to the bank daily by bad movers. Beware … bandit movers spring up faster than the government can put them out of business!
