Award Winning New Identity for Columbia University Continuing Education
New York, NY -- August 1, 2002 -- Gulla Design, a full service graphic design and marketing firm, announces that thier new identity and print collateral for Columbia University Continuing Education won several gold medals in a national Marketing and Publication competition. The awards include gold medals for logo design, logo implementation, poster design, and a bronze medal for catalog design. The competition was sponsored by the University Continuing Education Assocation (UCEA), and awards were presented at UCEAs 87th Annual Conference, held on April 18, 2002, in Toronto.
The objective was to develop a unique identity for Columbia Universitys School of Continuing Education to distinguish it from other schools at the university and to attract more students to its programs. The new identity was designed to reflect the classic, traditional qualities of the University as well as touch on the freedom of thought that is encouraged at Columbia. The elegance of the mark conveys the prestige and quality of education offered at Columbia University Continuing Education. The simplicity and clarity of the form allows for usage across all media. Gulla Design developed a graphic identity manual to ensure consistent application of the brand across all communications channels. In addition, they designed the web site, course catalogs, and posters that advertise the program.
We needed a designer to create an identity program that befitted Columbia University and provided Continuing Education with a distinct and memorable look" says Trudi Baldwin, Director of Communications and Student Recruitment, Columbia University Continuing Education. Gulla Design understood our diverse marketing, usability, and programmatic needs and devised a flexible, elegant system that was easily adaptable to each of our programs. Steve Gulla was a thoughtful and proactive collaborator who met each design challenge with stylish, coherent, and practical solutions. We are extremely pleased with the results."
Asked about the importance of an identity to an organization, Steven Gulla, owner of Gulla Design, says it can be its most important asset. An identity/branding program can signal to the market what an organization represents, and can make it stand out from the competion. Your identity should uphold and celebrate your companys purpose…indeed, its essence. In short, your logo is your company." Gulla Design works closely with its clients to capture this essence.
