SelecTech Inc., a Taunton-based manufacturer of high-end products made from recycled plastic waste, is seeking a partner for its newly-announced beta test, that will explore recycling possibilities for scrap left over in the manufacture of disposable diapers.

"SelecTech was founded to provide recycling solutions for plastic waste materials, and the disposable diaper industry certainly produces a lot of plastic waste," said Michael King, Vice President of SelecTech Inc. "Based upon our 'sniff test', which is a preliminary study of the feasibility of using this plastic waste in the manufacture of our recycled plastics products, we are now planning a full-scale beta test which will explore both materials development and product development using recycled diaper waste.

The "sniff test" mentioned by King involved processing more than 1,000 pounds of diaper plastic waste, to assess compatibility with SelecTech's plastic recycling process and to determine the properties of the recycled material. The results of the test indicated that recycled diaper waste could likely be used in some of the products SelecTech is currently manufacturing.

"Our goal now is to identify a partner to work with us on this project, most likely a diaper manufacturer," said King. "The end result of this project will not only provide an outlet for recycling our partner's plastic waste, but also a financial return through the products we'll be creating to sell through SelecTech's existing sales distribution network."
