Global Launch "Not With Saddam Hussein" World Peace Now Petition http://www.petitiononline.com/18932902/petition.html - by B.P. OKeefe
While Saddam Hussein flirts with World War III, a simple yet forceful petition reflects the overwhelming desire of people around the globe for peace, not war. While there is undoubtedly an escalating sense of anxiety coinciding with the looming crisis of global war, unity in opposition to war is also and inspiringly on the rise. Exacerbating the anxiety, while supporting the unity, world leaders such as Tony Blair are defending the principles of democracy by insuring the national security of all British citizens in supporting a new war in Iraq. Other politicians around the globe are now coping with the reality of becoming louder and louder, in their conspicuous silence towards George W. Bushs and Tony Blaires strong stand. The result it would seem, is an unprecedented growth in awareness; awareness exposing the growing belief that true representation of the people is protected by eliminating tyrants. Growing numbers of people are becoming increasingly frustrated, angry, and most of all deeply concerned about the dangers of an unopposed Saddam Hussein and what it will mean for democracy and security? As a result of the rapidly decreasing apathy and proportionately increasing concern, people are looking for legitimate forms of representation and action outside of the conventional institutions should their leaders not act.
Between India and Pakistan, Israel and Palestine, the last thing the world would seem to need is another tyrant with weapons of mass destruction, yet that is exactly what Saddam Hussein wants. Apparently, Iraq agreeing to the "unconditional" return of UN Weapons Inspectors is enough to win over those prone to memory lose, forgetting the 16 resolutions being flouted by Saddam. In fact, if the US does not get the resolution it needs from the UN Security Council, it may be forced to act alone, possibly having to "prevent" weapons inspectors getting back into Iraq for fear that Saddam will then have precious time to hide his weapons. Are we truly supposed to believe that the goal of all this is to "enhance peace", as the Hussein Regime would have us believe? Thinking people know better; Saddams record of lies and deception is a tried and true strategy that has bought him 11 years of defiance. Now, his disregard for international public opinion is yet again being thrust on the masses, where will it lead us this time around?
Countless people around the globe do not accept the worldview held by the apparent leadership within Iraq. By virtue of its unilateral isolationist policies which have increased over the last decade and accelerate further into the 21st Century, there can be no doubt that Iraqs policies are destructive to the interests of the vast majority of people on this planet. The growing suffering in Iraq being a direct reflection of the Saddam Hussein; a nation with the second richest oil reserves yet it does not provide basic needs such as food, shelter, and medical coverage for millions of its own citizens. US policies both at home and abroad continue to accelerate the move away from Saddam to a better existence for the Iraqi people. This process of "Free Trade" and "Globalization" that is acknowledged by thinking people as necessary for peace and prosperity are the elements lacking in Saddams Iraq causing hopelessness, anger, and eventually terrorism.
There is simply no debate that Iraq has used chemical weapons on its own people. This undeniably unacceptable behavior shows once again the seemingly non-existent concern for the welfare of people outside of his circle of power.
There is no doubt that Iraq has produced, distributed, and employed weapons of mass-destruction, yet Saddam continues to increase this dangerous and quite literally self destructive trend. While the US is forced to increases its military budget (once again) continuing its emphasis on weapons technology and production in order to defend the American people from terrorism. Further forcing the US to quietly declare its right to prevent others from pursuing weapons of mass destruction. Can there be any doubt that weapons of mass destruction must only be allowed for peace loving democracies such as the US, as opposed to tyrannical dictators such as Saddam Hussein. Hypocrisy does not even begin to explain the false concern Saddam expresses for his people" while aggressively seeking "Immunity" through refusing to sign onto the International Criminal Court, erroneously claiming that he will be a political target in the court. In the meantime he is continuing to arm himself beyond any sane explanation? Is the world a better place with Saddam Hussein in Power?
It has become painfully clear that the majority of Hussein's policies ignore the most urgent of views and concerns of the global community in favor of highly destructive but incredibly lucrative oil and defense interests that immediately surround him. In short, Saddam Hussein is clearly the most serious threat to the safety and security of all life on planet earth. Many are asking whether this man will launch nuclear weapons should he get them? Many do in fact feel that Hussein is indeed capable of nuclear strikes. In light of the fact that the Iraq has officially stated its right to fight the mother of all wars," the "Pre-emptive" Bush Doctrine becomes legitimate indeed. Even Henry Kissinger concedes that pre-emptive strikes against "potential threats" has no basis in International Law, but does the US have the right to defend itself when a known tyrant aspires to obtain the worlds worst weapons." The world it would seem, is wise to take notice.
Do the people of this planet have anything to say about whether we have a World War and/or Nuclear War? Is Global Nuclear War an impossibility? Is the world a safer and more secure place with Saddam Hussein in power? The people of the world are speaking and they are saying with growing unity, absolutely not. And with growing desire for World Peace, people of the world are declaring with resounding clarity; "We Are Not With Saddam Hussein" nor anyone loyal to his dangerous policies, including our own governments, "democratic" or not.
