Searchuno.co.uk - No banners, no buttons, no pop-ups. Just a better UK Web directory

Searchuno.co.uk, the UK's first web directory with a policy of not allowing banners, buttons or pop-ups appearing on it has been test-launched. Searchuno.co.uk makes it better for users. Web site owners can submit sites for free and be added within 48 hours.

6 January 2003: The UK's first web directory with a policy of not allowing banners, buttons or pop-ups appearing on it has been test-launched.

Searchuno (www.searchuno.co.uk) from Park Royal Media aims to make it quick and easy to find sites that people are looking for. Searchuno is based on the Open Directory which has been modified and enhanced by Park Royal Media.

"People using the web are increasingly getting frustrated by the amount of cluttered advertising that is appearing," said Park Royal Media co-founder Leslie Bunder. "The last thing anyone wants is for banners, buttons and pop-ups to obstruct a persons web experience, yet this is happening all the time."

Searchuno has come about as a result of the lack of a UK-focused web directory. Over the years, the number of web directories has shrunk from
over a dozen to just a handful and of those left, search results given are populated with all manner of advertising before users can get the results they need.

"People searching on the web want to get to the sites and services they seek quickly and easily, they don't need to see reams upon reams of advertising appearing before they find what they are after," Bunder added.

Another issue that Searchuno seeks to address is smaller sites that are unable to afford to pay to get their site into other web directories. "These
days unless you have got a lot of money to spend it is difficult to get your web site listed on many directories. And those directories that still allow you to submit a web site for free, well, often they will tell you that it can take over a month for your web site to appear -- if they allow it to appear at all," Bunder said.

"With Searchuno there is no cost to add your web site and we aim to make sure that all web sites submitted are added within 48 hours if they meet the criteria for inclusion which includes the importance of having a UK-focus," he added.

People using Searchuno will be confident to know that no web site has paid to get to the top of their listing. Searchuno is about delivering a quality service that web surfers and web site owners can both use and not feel that the results are in any way biased based on the amount of money someone has spent.
