The Hillbilly Dinner Napkin: The New Pet Rock?

Popularity of Redneck humor web sites sees new product idea from K & G Enterprises called The Hillbilly Dinner Napkin. Will it be the next big Thing?

Modesto, CA-January 2, 2003- K & G Enterprises introduces a product that could rival the pet rock in popularity for year 2003. According to K & G Enterprises, The Hillbilly Dinner Napkin may have missed the Christmas season in 2002, but is alive and well for a variety of year 2003 functions, including Chili Cook-Off events, Fourth of July Barbecue's and Company Picnics. The product made of long john material is designed to fit over a person's arm or shirtsleeve and act as a napkin sleeve. "It's a total a non-necessary item for people to have, just like the pet rock, but it's fun," said spokesperson Gail Johnson. "This is an old idea that we put into reality based on the rise in popularity of items such as Billy-Bob Teeth, Trailer Park Cookbooks, Redneck Jokes and a variety of other southern, rural popular genre items."

The Hillbilly Dinner Napkin, currently only sold on the companies web site, comes with a variety of amusing product information sheets that can be read on-line. Johnson credits reading an article about Billy-Bob Teeth in the San Francisco Chronicle for the inspiration to take an old idea and put it to the test. "You never know if you're going to be the next pet rock until you try," expressed Johnson, "even though this product is a lot more utilitarian than the pet rock was." The web site has been up for about a month, but not marketed. It currently ranks number one on Google's search engine under Hillbilly Napkin.
