HOMETOWN DOG MAKES GOOD... TREATS
and Kicks Off "Have a Heart" Fundraising Campaign to Help Canine Community
Latka's De-licious Doggie Treats kicks off "Have a Heart" campaign to raise funds and awareness for two organizations committed to improving the quality of life for dog.
Latka's De-licious Doggie Treats, a new brand of all natural home-baked dog treats, has launched in New York City.
The new treats business is the pet project of Beth Goldberg, a promotional marketing and events professional, who
embarked on the venture after losing her job, when her former employer suffered the effects of the economy's downturns.
Unexpected unemployment meant Ms. Goldberg finally had the time to make her dream of adopting a puppy come true.
"When I brought my wonderful dog Latka home, little did I know he would later become my business partner," Goldberg said.
Inspired by Latka's fondness for her wholesome home baked treats, Ms. Goldberg decided to put her love for dogs and
baking to work by making the all natural treats available for sale. The treats business is named after Latka, whose photograph
and story appear on the products' packaging. According to Goldberg, "Latka plays an active role in the business, serving as
chief tasting specialist." She added, "I truly enjoy having the opportunity to spend time with Latka as we work."
Made by hand, one at a time, Latka's treats are baked with human grade ingredients and contain no sugar, salt,
preservatives, coloring or additives. Treats are currently available in two flavors -- cheddar cheese and peanut butter -- and can
be purchased in attractive 4 oz., 8 oz., and 16 oz. tin tie bags. Treats gift packages are available for holidays and special
occasions ranging from Christmas and Valentine's Day to birthdays, obedience school graduations and more. Latka's
De-licious Doggie Treats are currently sold directly to consumers via the official web site at www.de-licioustreats.com.
However, local retail stores have taken an interest in the new products and select stores will begin to offer items for sale this
winter and spring.
As an entrepreneur, Ms. Goldberg subscribes to the idea that companies should do well by doing good. Ten years ago,
Goldberg worked for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), where she had the
opportunity to witness first hand the many dogs desperately needing loving homes. A decade later, the problem still persists,
and Goldberg hopes her business can help to make a difference in the lives of dogs.
Latka's De-licious Doggie Treats will initiate its cause-related efforts with a pre-Valentine's Day "Have a Heart" campaign
to raise funds and awareness for two local organizations committed to improving the quality of life for New York City dogs.
The "Have a Heart" campaign will offer consumers the following two ways to help dogs in need.
Now through February 28th, when customers make online purchases of Latka's De-licious Doggie Treats' Valentine's Day
products, 10% of sales proceeds will be donated to Stray from the Heart, an organization whose mission is to rescue,
rehabilitate and place homeless and abused dogs with loving new families.
On Saturday, February 1st and Sunday, February 2nd from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., a special Latka's De-licious Doggie Treats
"Have a Heart" sale will help to raise funds for the rebuilding of the 72nd Street dog run in Manhattan's Riverside Park. Bags
of heart-shaped treats will be sold at the dog run, and all of the event's sales proceeds will be donated to FLORAL, the
organization that works with the Parks Department and members of the community to improve the variety and extent of
off-leash recreational opportunities in Riverside Park.
