Families of Alzheimers Patients Have New Help

Families of Alzheimer's patients struggle personally and medically to care for their loved one. Now, a new software is available to help them better advocate and care for their Alzheimer's family member.

[Deerfield, IL - [January 13, 2003 --
Alzheimers disease is a devastating disease that affects 5% of people at age 65 and nearly 50% of those 85 and older. The burden on families is enormous from a personal, medical, and financial standpoint. Fortunately, now there is new computer software that can help families cope with the medical and personal aspects of caring for someone with Alzheimers disease.

The new software is an Alzheimers Caregiver Software, and is an updated version of the handheld software Health Empowerment Tools v1.0 developed by PDAHealthWare, Inc. With this new software, caregivers will be able to track all medical data such as lab tests, medications, side effects of medications, alterations in behavior, and memory performance as measured by the mini-mental status exam.

Dr. Amarish Dave, President and Co-Founder of PDAHealthWare, Inc. said, Physicians are often pressed for time for a variety of reasons, and patients who are best able to advocate for themselves are likely to receive the best care. The Alzheimers Caregiver Software will allow caregivers of Alzheimers patients, and really anyone who serves the role as caregiver, optimize the care of their loved by identifying side effects of medications sooner, monitor fluctuating behavior which will allow their physician to dose medication more accurately, and reduce caregiver stress by having access to all of the pertinent medical information at any time."

PDAHealthWare, Inc. was founded in 2000 and has distributed over 5000 copies of the handheld Health Empowerment Tools v1.0. It is a leading personal medical software company and the first to release a Windows and Palm OS compatible software designed to help Alzheimers Caregivers. The Palm OS version, which is for use in handheld computers, sells for $19, and the Windows OS version for use on desktop or laptop computers retails for $48. Both are available at the companys website, http://www.pdahealthware.com.
