Savvydiner.com books record holiday reservations for US Restaurants
Founded in 1996, Savvydiner.com enables business travelers the ease of reserving a table at up-scale dining establishments in the US and Canada. For 2002, Savvydiner.com booked confirmed cover counts of 94,375 via it's XML Dynamic Database Web Site.
(January 5th 2002-Seattle, Washington) The holiday cheer made a comeback for the nation's restaurants according to Savvydiner.com confirmed reservations counts this past December. The Seattle based on-line concierge reservation service booked confirmed covers of 10,494, the highest in the companies seven year history. When comparing these counts to the previous December, the XML Dynamic Database web site saw an increase of over 100%. "Above all else companies still see the benefits of the annual holiday gathering at an up-scale restaurant", states Willis Olson, CEO and founding member of Savvydiner.com.
One noticeable change observed by Savvydiner.com concierges' is the large number of private party requests of over 10 guests. "Although the holidays where the primary reason for this increase in larger groups, we noticed this trend at the beginning of last summer". Savvydiner.com in no way restricts the number in a party when using its reservation pages. "Because we utilize a "high-touch" concierge system that involves human interaction, our call center staff makes a personal request to that restaurants Catering/Private Dining director" explains Donnell Obrochta, who handles Savvy's Private Dining requests. Obrochta and staff help facilitate some of the unique needs of a private party request.
Looking into 2003, CEO Olson feels optimistic, "We've worked hard to position ourselves as the premier concierge style reservation system". With what appears to be a stabilized stock market and recently released economic data favoring the business traveler, Olson sees a positive future for his on-line endeavor. "Needless to say this has been a very challenging past 15 months, but I think we've turned the corner and that is great for our users and clients". The restaurant marketing veteran has watched several well financed and very visible companies come and go in the restaurant reservations systems space and he thinks he knows why Savvy is still around. "Some things like human interaction and our need for it don't change, we happened to have found a way to take the human touch beyond the keyboard".
