LVA-BV Holds Tutor Training for Interested Volunteers

Literacy Volunteers will hold a tutor training for volunteers in the Brazos Valley (Texas) on November 25th for interested adults. Call 779-3743 ext. 237 to sign up.

Bryan - Literacy Volunteers of America-Brazos Valley is holding tutor training on January 25 to train volunteers in teaching adults to read and write.

Tutors are needed to fight illiteracy in the Brazos Valley.

In the Brazos Valley, approximately 36 percent of adults do not have a high school diploma and 15 percent have less than a 9th grade education," according to 1990 U.S. Census Data.

Training will include practice and demonstration of teaching techniques, lesson planning, assessing students needs, and goal setting. Lunch will be provided.

Volunteers do not need any teaching experience. Volunteers should be over 18 years old, hold a high school diploma or GED, have a desire to help others, ability to communicate effectively and have a strong commitment. If you have an interest in teaching adults please call Bobbee Pennington at 779-3743 ext. 237 to register for training.
