Earth Pledge Foundation Receives $25,000 Grant from Citigroup for NYC's Largest Green Roof
Earth Pledge--a promoter of sustainable practices in agriculture and architecture--gets significant backing in its effort to build green roofs throughout New York City.
On December 5, 2002, the Citigroup Foundation awarded Earth Pledge with a grant of $25,000 for the Earth Pledge Viridian Project. The Viridian Project provides technical and financial support, as well as job training, in the construction of green roofs atop buildings that offer supportive housing to low- and moderate-income individuals. Our first partner is Housing Works with whom we will develop a 7,500 square foot green roof-the largest green roof to date in New York City-atop their supportive-living facility in the East Village. The Housing Works green roof will not only reduce building energy costs and extend the roof's lifecycle, it will also provide related job skill training. Additionally, Housing Works tenants will benefit from safe outdoors space for recreational and therapeutic activities.
