The Parent Manual

Learn effective ways to respond to different issues about parenthood

WILMETTE, ILLINOIS- When authors Derek and Gail Randel were confronted with a big decision involving their 15-year-old son, they had no choice but to follow their hunches and instincts. "We were frightened and felt we had no further options at home. We acted on blind faith," the couple confessed. In their latest book The Parent Manual (now available through 1stbooks Library, online, and at bookstores), Derek and Gail attempt to free parents from this dilemma and share their time-tested program called "Parent Smart From The Heart."

  • changing how we respond to different issues," the authors write, "your children will also change how they respond. Our goal is to help you enjoy your children." Drawing on their actual experiences, the couple designed easy-to-follow techniques to enhance and develop parent-child relationships.

Featuring some of the valuable theories of renowned experts on family matters like Jim Fay, Dr. Foster Cline, and Jack Canfield, The Parent Manual provides ample tools and resources on parenting and handling teenagers. Particularly, it empowers parents and teaches them effective ways to respond to various issues on parenthood. "We have taken two programs, Love and Logic and Jack Canfield's Self-Esteem Seminars and combined them to come up with our own program. We are helping parents before they get to our point of frustration. Parenting can be and should be fun," the couple explains.

  • authors also give emphasis on the importance of love and respect in building solid relationships. "In our home, our message of love is felt while guiding our children through the landscapes of childhood and teenage years with love and respect and with no more yelling."

Derek Randel holds a Master degree in secondary education and an economics degree from the University of Michigan, He taught high school and middle school for 12 years and was nominated for a Disney American Teacher Award.
