Cuban, That's All! - An Exile In Three Acts, Candid Voices of a Spanglish Existence will be presented live at Books and Books in Coral Gables, Florida on April 12, 2002 at 8:00 pm.
A sixty minute performance will be followed by a question and answer session and a book signing by the author.
Cuban author Juan Hernandez and a cast of three will interpret 20+ monologues from the dramedy recounting the Cuban exile experience from 1959 post-revolution Cuba through today.
Books and Books is located at 265 Aragon Avenue in Coral Gables.
Cuban, That's All! has been performed in various venues throughout South Florida and was most recently featured in 'The Internet Cuban' (icuban.com) in the month of December.
Cuban author Juan Hernandez has written a series of monologues capturing the many stories of Cuban exiles as they assimilated into the 'great American melting pot.'
The cast consists of Marta Davis, Gregg Davis, Yvonne Hernandez and Juan Hernandez interpreting monologues ranging from a mother trying to prepare her daughter's fifteen's party to a boy who was smuggled from Cuba in a shoebox.
For people who lived through the Cuban repatriation experience, either through the Freedom Flights, the Pedro Pan project, the Mariel Boatlift or Camarioca, this book/play will evoke emotions and memories.
For anyone interested in Cuba and the immigrant experience, this book provides some great insights into the many tales of assimilation by Cuban exiles.
Speaking specifically to anyone who has had to leave their homeland, the monologues range from serious to humorous; however, they all show the overwhelming tenacity that allowed the Cuban people to survive, endure and prosper in their new homeland.
From the back cover of Cuban, That's All! An Exile In Three Acts - Candid Voices of a Spanglish Existence

Hear the voices of Camarioca, the Freedom Flights, Operacion Pedro Pan, the Mariel Boatlift and today with the pathos, humor and honesty that only Cubans can bring to their repatriation experience.
