ACADEMIC CENTER OF TAMPA IS A UNIQUE LEARNING CENTER OFFERING ONE-ON-ONE TUTORING.

Academic Center provides one-on-one tutoring to students K-adult. If your child has been struggling in school, here are tips to help you and your family achieve academic success.

What causes a child to fall behind in school? What does a parent do when teachers are saying that retention is probable? What does the child do who continues to struggle, but just can't seem to catch up, never mind get ahead in school? The family begins the search for help.

"It simply breaks my heart to hear a student say that he or she is not smart enough when walking in the door to tutoring for the first time. In addition to a thorough and comprehensive academic program, our students are immediately conditioned for success in school. We praise and motivate each student. We teach that child how to become a successful student," says Elizabeth Counts, Executive Director of Academic Center of Tampa. More than just a learning center, Academic Center offers monthly progress reports to families and constant communication with each child's teachers.

Looking for educational help can be a daunting task for parents. If your child needs help, here are some suggestions:
1.) Immediately conference with the teacher(s).
2.) Do not blame your child, or assume there is a lack of desire or responsibility.
3.) Assess the problem and call local professionals to assist.
4.) If your child needs tutoring, seek professional tutoring options (careful! some are costly and will place your child with several other students at the same time who may be of varying ages and needs).
5.) Make a plan and stick to it. Consistency is key!

Counts says that much of the growth of Academic Center can be attributed to word of mouth. The successes that the families experience in a short period of time are wonderful and they love to share their excitement. Sammy, a student attending the Center for writing, still keeps in touch with Ms. Counts. He is in fourth grade and excelling. Another student, Elijah, was to be held back this past year. But with complete dedication on the part of his family, and working diligently during tutoring, he was retested by the school and was promoted. "These are the stories that our teachers here at Academic Center help create. This is why we do what we do," says Counts. She credits much of the students' academic progress and increased self-esteem to the one-on-one tutoring with the amazing teachers. All of the teachers currently working part time at the learning center have been there since day one. Another unique feature since many learning centers feel the strain of high turn over.

The biggest lesson for families is not to wait if you see an issue with your child's learning. There is help. There is a solution.

Academic Center offers a free assessment in reading, math and writing. Students will then receive one-on-one tutoring with a certified, experienced, and caring teacher. For more information, contact Ms. Counts @ 813.968.8787, ecountss@aol.com, or visit www.tutoringnow.com.
