SHOCK INCREASE IN MULTIPLE BIRTHS

A recent survey has shown that women are waiting longer to start a family. The average age of a first time mother is now 30. Research by Kent based publication Twins and Supertwins" has revealed shocking results that all women should be aware of when planning to start a family.

A recent survey has shown that women are waiting longer to start a family. The average age of a first time mother is now 30. Research by Kent based publication Twins and Supertwins" has revealed shocking results that all women should be aware of when planning to start a family.

These results show that women who conceive under the age of twenty have a 5.7% chance of having twins or multiples. This increases to 17.9% between the ages of 30 and 34. Women between 35 and 39 have a massive 21% chance of a multiple birth. Over the last 20 years births of multiples has rocketed by 34%. These huge increases are in part due to women having children later and also the increase in use of fertility treatments.

Julia Robinson researcher for Twincall Publications Ltd said one advantage of older mothers is that they are usually more financially secure and are able to afford the increased costs that occur with multiple births". The research has revealed that many baby product retailers are reporting an increase in sales of twin related goods.
