QUINTUM'S TENOR MULTIPATH SWITCH RECEIVES THE TOLLY GROUP UP TO SPEC" CERTIFICATION

Tolly tested both Quintums Analog and Digital series VoIP MultiPath switches with embedded GateKeeper.

Quintum Technologies today announced that their Tenor® VoIP MultiPath Switch was certified UP TO SPEC by The Tolly Group in the Performance Evaluation. The Tolly Group, a strategic consulting, independent testing, and industry analysis organization, conducted the evaluation at its state-of-the-art test facility in Manasquan, New Jersey.

Tolly tested both Quintums Analog and Digital series VoIP MultiPath switches with embedded GateKeeper. The functionality that was tested included Quintums patented SelectNet auto-switching, PacketSaver multiplexing technology for bandwidth optimization, MultiPath Call Routing, H.323 and T.38 fax interoperability with the Cisco® 2600 Gateway and Cisco 2600 Gatekeeper, and voice quality.

SelectNet, Tenors QoS auto-switching capability, successfully switched calls transparently from an IP network to a simulated PSTN, in mid call, when voice quality degraded below the threshold set by Tolly engineers.

MultiPath Call Routing, which intelligently routes both VoIP and circuit switched calls, performed successfully in all two-way voice call scenarios, as did the interoperability tests between the Tenor and the Cisco gateway/gatekeeper. Voice calls and T.38 fax calls were initiated and all were established and sent fax transmissions successfully.

Quintums PacketSaver technology multiplexes VoIP calls, reducing the number of IP packet headers. According to Tolly tests, the activation of Quintums PacketSaver generated bandwidth savings of up to 57%. Tenors voice algorithms (G.711, G.723 and G.729a) were tested to measure call quality according to subjective Mean Opinion Score (MOS) and Perceptual Evaluation of Speech Quality (PESQ) algorithms. A score of 4.0 or higher on MOS scores indicates toll quality voice; 4.5 on PESQ indicates a perfect score. Tenors rated above 4.0 in both MOS and PESQ on its G.711 codec. The G.723 and G.729 codecs, which both introduce varying levels of compression with a trade off in voice quality, were only slightly below 4.0 on both rating scales.

The UP TO SPEC certification assures end-users that equipment lives up to vendor promises. The Tolly Group tests are designed to evaluate products in an environment typically found in Fortune 1,000 companies. After rigorous testing and thorough evaluation, the UP TO SPEC certification is presented to products that perform as promised. Given The Tolly Groups position in the industry, the UP TO SPEC certification serves as a valuable resource for end-user product selection.

We are very pleased to have the Tolly UP TO SPEC certification for our Tenor VoIP products," said Chuck Rutledge, VP of Marketing at Quintum Technologies. Tolly has an excellent reputation in the industry for its thorough testing standards and Tolly Group certification will allow our customers to purchase our products with increased confidence.

The Quintum Tenor products have a very unique set of features that successfully address the issues faced when deploying VoIP," said Kevin Tolly, president/CEO of The Tolly Group. Quintum has created a quality product deserving of the Tolly UP TO SPEC certification."
